Great content, amazing interface. Only complaint is that I don't like the generic 'disk' swap message, I would have preferred to be told what side it wanted ;)
Looking forward to the next one :) | User Comment Submitted by Conjuror on 7 September 2010
Just managed to find time to read through the latest VN.
Great content as always, the VN team must be working everyday to record the events, everything that happens is covered. Great to hear the behind the scene activity as well. Great journalism!
Loved this snippet:
"the 1990s demo scene was the most repetitive and dull copy period of all time"
Couldn't agree more. The new era is so much better. | User Comment Submitted by wozza on 6 September 2010
Jazzcat, you and the team quiet simply rock. Remind me to buy you a poison of your choice at Syntax '10 if you attend; you certainly deserve it! Wonderful effort. | User Comment Submitted by Jazzcat on 5 September 2010
Frantic: hopefully our new outfit we work on will cover some of the points you have made. However, we are hoping that older readers do not have problems with Menu/Options and colour-selector, as the outfit has been in use since 1995 (that's a few issues :DD) for the newer audience, valid points indeed.
Regarding disk change and side indication, agree 100%, it is no real bug, just an oversight in the original 1995 programming (no mag had exceeded two disk sides back then, the first to do so was Skyhigh #20). As mentioned in my Production Notes we will fix this with the new outfit.
Cheers for the constructive comments guys. | User Comment Submitted by Cobra/Samar on 5 September 2010 User Comment Submitted by Frantic on 5 September 2010
I never enjoyed the interface of vandalism. ...how the navigation functions are visualized and how they are controlled. For example, "Menu" and "Options" are placed next to each other in a horizontal manner, but you switch between them with up/down button, and the text is read from top to bottom, but you scroll it with left/right button. Should obviously be the other way around. It is also somewhat unclear to me at first if "Menu" or "Options" is selected, since one is white and one is black and it is not crystal clear what color represents "selected"---it is just two colors and none of them appear to be more figure or ground than the other. (Sure, one can infer that white is probably "selected" since those equally non-informative symbols are also black, but I tend not to see it spontaneously...) For the semiotically minded; The more general point here is that I think this mag would benefit from some more "iconicity" and less "arbitrariness". To be sure, there is some aesthetic value in this arbitrariness too. Just not one that makes me want to interact with it, and in the end, I tend to read only a fraction of the mag...
...but that is just me, I guess. Apart from those quite specific and in a way also minor complaints, this is indeed quality stuff since there are so many other aspects of this mag that are very nice. Some of the graphics are truly stunning and it is also cool to see the graphics interleaved with the text in this issue again. (Every single time I see it the nerd in me thinks "he he he", so it has a non-detoriating pop-out effect.) Haven't listened to all the tunes, but what I heard fit the mag well. Good work!
Bug? -> When I load a new chapter from the menu (in VICE this time), if it was the wrong disk in the drive it only asks for "Disk", but not "Disk B" or "Disk C" or so, so you are not informed what disk to insert. A bug? | User Comment Submitted by Zapotek on 5 September 2010
great issue :) worth the wait | User Comment Submitted by Joe on 5 September 2010
Making the graphics for this one was great. I was working on the images for roughly one week at a time during this past summer.
The intro image is from January 2009. I'm happy you all liked it.
I had a great time reading the texts, the interviews and appreciate the work involved from all others, don't forget about that.
@Grasstusts, no we wont do any slideshow, however you can watch most of my artwork over at bitfellas, and even vote if you like:

Had a total read of the magazine today, it was a joy and I must say that all the graphics from joe and the ed code and music and all are very good, a really strong and well put together magazine, congrats on your format, it is the best. | User Comment Submitted by Wile Coyote on 4 September 2010
Naked robots?
I tend to view them as females wearing fetish outfits. Rubber, PVC, that sort of thing. | User Comment Submitted by SIDWAVE on 4 September 2010
Excellent gfx design by Joe again.. he seems to be hooked on naked robots :D | User Comment Submitted by Mr. Mouse on 4 September 2010 User Comment Submitted by Sander on 4 September 2010

Just read every word over the last 2 hours or so. Excellent. Great graphics from everyone, especially Joe! | User Comment Submitted by Wile Coyote on 4 September 2010
Good graphics. Will read tonight.
Tune: Jan Harries (6)
The tune reminds me of Green Beret Loading tune, all be it slower.
TDJ left Focus in April. Will Focus ever be the same?
I bet he shows up in a future Focus scroll-text ;D

Another great issue of the best mag of our scene. | User Comment Submitted by PAL on 4 September 2010
Could one say insert disc II at te next issue instead of just say disc? | User Comment Submitted by Twoflower on 3 September 2010
A nice, solid issue - as expected. Save for the solid text, the music brought some surprises. Joes consistant imagery and fonts needs to mentioned aswell - one of the best looking and most adaptable typefaces ever to surface on the C-64 is to be seen here. Brilliant usage of it in the intro. | User Comment Submitted by Motion on 3 September 2010
My compliments to the chef's, an impressive choice of ingredients. Joe - you rule as always!
| User Comment Submitted by DJ Gruby on 3 September 2010

I am so proud of it... love! wow, I must say all in all it is a really great issue. Great intro and all... music is cool... wow! what a professional magazine it is.... | User Comment Submitted by 6R6 on 3 September 2010
