Just watched this at Gubbdata 2017 on the projector and good speakers.

I instantly said: "who composed those awesome tunes?"... I had to look it up... and now I understood my love for the tunes.

Amazing demo. Will watch it again when I get home.

Good work everyone on the demo!

This is one of those times you don't give a rat's ass about how short a demo is. I can't believe my eyes. Another benchmark tech demo.
Jack Nicholson in Batman would say to this demo: "Gentlemen, let's broaden our minds! Lawrence Clarence..."

Clarence - you are totally awesome - this demo is awesome and you made it the most for me - the rest involved - great effort and the demo will forever be one of the greatest!

Clarence, I am equally impressed by this demo as I am by your humble replies. You do rock, and I mean the whole Chorus team.

@Drax, I actually do love these tunes, and wouldn't change them willingly. They simply grown on me. We'll see what future brings, your offer sounds excellent. :)

@Magnar, the difference is the increased size of the visible area.

@Pal, I find you a very kind and passionate scener. Thanks for the praise, but to my mind this demo wouldn't have been the best demo ever, even if Mirage and Jeroen Tel supported me with their finest works. To me there are better demos, and please don't refer to csdb charts, which I learned to ignore a long time ago. Leon's artwork is part of the Chorus identity, even if he mightn't have his finest moments here. But at least I could count on him when needed, and just out of friendship I wouldn't have likely used other artwork. Same goes for Drax. + To avoid confusion: JustInTime is a product of my old group, but I wasn't involved.

The fullscreen AGSP is just some heavy wizardry.

I am afraid that if you decide to make a demo that uses REU it will summon Cthulhu and 9 of his clones or something at that point.

Also really nice music and graphics, don't understand what's the complaining all about.

When Clarence, Drax and Leon create the next demo I will shit my pants all out! I am almost sure of that. What a team you have been... and after knowing that it was so much in the last minutes or weeks... wow!

Here you have some of the most talented people together, you can just create the best demo ever, every time you create a demo... This demo is so absolutely among the best - in coding. If you can make the best out of each other also... it will be so totally beast and a challange for all, right? And it will be so super to see that from the other side and in... you are a super team, stay with that and just do it! Clarence - when I saw the JUSTINTIME demo back in the days I was puzzled and I am still 2day. The coding skills are just above. It is the most HARDCORE CODE you are doing nowadays- almost everytime you release code!

When I see a demo I see art, I listen to music and I see things not possible or just so time consuming to create in code... I adore the effort of all parts in a demo and even more and more these days due to all the feedback we have received from you all, the director of a demo. Sometimes I think a choherent line is rater boring and I personally like stuff that is just a bag of marbels in different colors, shapes and feelings... but no matter what one do there are these people wanting it to be something else. In this demo you have the same "problem" as we always do have... not a problem because it is a demo on the commodore64 - It is not a film - You proved that just now in my mind. If the viewers want a film this demo is not that, a lot of our demos are not that also! BUT they were fun to create and show and to make something nice for the rest of the scene. Thanx for all your efforts Clarence, Drax and Leon. You inspire and you did a huge difference with this demo in our scene! I love you for that!

HCL: I did not have a bad day, I just felt this demo deserved even greater art and music and it sure do... next time they will do just that - be very excited all of us!

Clarence, you're the king - thanks for using those old and dusty tunes... The demo deserved some new and more elaborated tunes that fitted more to the demo... I will pull myself together and make some more interesting music to you next time - if there is a next time? - I am ready :)

The intro logo twister was awesome! Nice colorful kefrens bars, and the rocket with the cube/EORs above. The jumping bitmap and the XY-moving bitmap was to me something I've seen Bob do with VSP in multiple ways, but I presume this was done with a different tech? The end part was also cool. All in all, a great demo! A bit short, but very lovely and nice work on both code, gfx and music! Specially cheers to Drax! Keep producing and do new and unexpected things! :)

Well... I did not expect this overwhelming positive feedback. Some of the parts haunted me for a too long time to judge objectively by myself. It was an exhausting ~2 weeks to put it together in time. Leon was hyperactively supportive. Also notable is Drax's stretching patience since many-many months.

@Cargo, thanks for the crew for a great organizing job at Arok.

@LFT, your loader tool is super-duper, and I mean it.

@Cruzer, I got a great deal of inspiration from your works, your words means a lot.

@Frantic, to supplement Hollowman, it's a routine I call 'half eXpansion'. It has a split structure, that allows to freely decide for every sprite's each and every line separately, whether it's left or right side is expanded.

@Pal, no hard feelings however you vote, tastes differ. I know many things could have been better, even the code.

@HCL, thanks for the motivating words.

@Cadaver, as HCL pointed out AGSP Max is memory friendly, it isn't that rastertime economic though.

@Cerix, exactly my thoughts, watching Uncensored. :)

@Lemming: It's in multicolour mode, but with a pseudo hires effect by shifting alternately every line with a single pixel back and forth. + carefully chosen raster colour changes spice it up.

@Bob, it was great talking to you!

@Groepaz, lol, sorry for the trouble, yet again.

@All, thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. Heck, it's hard to believe to see some of these names.

Very nice :-) This is what I love about these types of demo's. Innovation, new tricks. This one has it all. On a plus point, this fails on turbo chameleon connected to the c64 (even on latest beta 9d version) Demo runs but glitches in the dual fld and full screen AGSP part (Lack of smooth scroll in vertical direction and d800 colors mapping over incorrectly on output screen. :-) Should hopefully give more motivation for the authors to iron out the firmware further for TC :-)

I even had the chance to meet up with Clarence in Budapest last month ;) happy that I have met you and ofcourse gratulations for the win to whole team! Well deserved.
an Excellent demo with outstanding coding & vic trickery, great new ideas! This is what inspires me, this is what the scene is about. KICK ASS!

HCL: I did look at the memory, but too cursorily it seems. Seems to be a clever high speed ping pong copy between bitmaps. Thanks for the correction :)

Wow such a nice demo with a truly beautiful feel to it.. the critical sisters nagging are just spoilt by too much high quality and wished they had the skills to make a product in their own likeness.. they should really be positive and create similar beauty that inspires everyone else. Most critique comes from jealousy.. and that is the worst quality within a human...

Chorus keep producing beauty. You really inspire us to keep loving our Commodore 64.

Totally amazing!! This is what makes it worth participating in the so called scene, i just love every moment when i see and listen to this demo. The only effect that i get straight away it that 4-char sprite trick, or at least i think so.. The rest is pure rocketry!! :D.

Then all depressed comments around here about music, art style and possible effect usage in games makes me truly upset. WTF is with you guys!?!? Ok, when it comes to audial and visual grace, one can always claim that is wasn't my *taste* or "cup of tea". Now, DRAX happens to be (one of?) *the* most productive and loved composers *ever* on this machine.. Giving him a rating of 7 in your calculation probably makes almost everyone wonder what more bad things you have experienced today.. And for AGSP game-usage, why don't you even bother to peek into the memory just once before you vomit here in the comment field. (I did). Yes i'm ranting, and it's not like me.. or is it?! ;). Sorry for that everyone, but i think the guys behind this deserves better than that. Now when Crest is not arround anymore (hint hint), Clarence is perhaps the only two-legger who could come up with stuff like this!! Then i guess noone yet complained about the code.. :)

..so to sum things up: Total roxxoring ossomness!!

Submitted by cadaver on 16 August 2015
Amazing effects, but at the same time a bit depressive, because you e.g. know that the full screen AGSP must be achieved with several shifted copies of the graphics data, and therefore isn't generally applicable in, say, a game :(
User Comment
Submitted by Hoild on 16 August 2015
+To more properly define my issue with it, the small number of very cool stuff was shown for too long, so the pacing was very off for a 5+ minutes production. Such a duration would need more content to be fulfilling. Or alternatively, a tighter pacing would have also made it better, I think.

Submitted by Hoild on 16 August 2015
Very cool, but due to the low number of effects and GFX featured it was too short.

Frantic, if you look at the sprites in memory and check the code it looks like they are partly expanded with $d01d splits

I have to admit, I'm also taken by the kind of retoric to make the trickery into treat, like here.
Excellent feeling of doing things which 40-year old people using a 30 year old machine get impressed by...
It's impressing!

I am a bit blown away from the code in this and the fact that this one is smooth as in king of smooth of camelot almost... the sprites in upper border, full new extended FLD and the intro techer (without the interference green one) and kefbars are just blizz, awesome code! I want to give this demo a the highest score but I can not, because I really do not think the music and art are that great and in my mind a demo is all three... It is hard on the scale these days because there are so much great demos that have been done - 10 for the one-man-code, 7 for music and 7 for art from me... combined I must give this demo a nine, because code really counts more here in this one for me! Man of god it is fantastic to see such a great demo...
