Oh this is lovely. Gorgeous pics and cracking tune. Props for the memory wrangling to get it to all fit too.

@Digger, @Frantic: These fonts were actually done around 1994 i think, first time used in DS intro

@Frantic: the blocky hires font actually looks like an improved version of the one I've commited about 20 years ago (was used in Visual Obsession and Satan OK)

Dudes! FLI Profi V1.0 is from 1993! Yes, that's fucking 17 years ago, that's about as old as Knoeki! <:-)
Colorful FLI gfx is ancient. What's more of a task is actually writing a converter for it, ask Bitbreaker how much fun he had with the NUFLI FLIbug gfx! ;-)
And no, interleaving 2 pics across 3 banks through bankswitching isn't rocket science either, sorry to burst your bubble! ;-D Now that scrolling Royal Arte pic was some truely novel shit.... BACK THEN! 8)
As for the production: Really nice! Gotta say that the music isn't my cuppa tea and neither is the Easy Rider flicker-transition. But the pics are fantastic, i absolutely love Valsary's, it's one of the best he ever made! He still knows the true fine MCol-Pixelart that only so few people can do (Mirage, Hein, Mermaid, Archmage)... So looking forward to more! ;-D

Great concept, music and artwork! I really like this!
I'm still a bit bothered that the full potential of FLI was somewhat neglected in the remaining 37x25 chars of the screen.
It's a 10 none the less.

It is very much like the interlaced one in Royal Arte, just more colors in the FLI-bug area. At least Valsary's picture has alot more colors, but technically it's the same. Plus this one also changes $d800-colors.

i bet that hcl had to do bank switching in every line in the beginning and between flibug and proper bitmap area thus sprites were in separate 3rd bank, right? :) and music player was placed on a border :D

I think the main difference is the possibility to switch between 2 pictures..

A FLI pic uses the whole VIC bank, so a 40 col wide picture must use more than 2 banks to make room for the sprites.

I'm guessing it's a pretty nasty puzzle to fit 2 FLI pics + sprites into the memory :)

(then again.. prolly it's not that hard.., just an added complication)

Jammer and Clarence: cheers for the explanations...thought I had seen something similar, but not like this. If HCL or others could shed some light on the code behind this?

Submitted by Clarence on 18 March 2010
Nice prod. Like those floating trees.

Ksubi, some kind of 40 chars wide full FLI pic was done already in Royal Arte a long time ago. Don't know if this one is technically different... HCL?

No offense, but I think putting "no copy" on your picture looks stupid and takes up unneccisary amounts of pixels.

Other than that, nice release.

What Twoflower said. Pretty awesome Jammer´s high standard sounds, as usual. I don´t really dig the lead work too much tho, I am afraid :P Still, fat shit.

Nice, somewhat surrealistic, graphics from both Carrion and Valsary. That Antic-fade by HCL makes it even more surrealistic. Nice production alltogether.

algo, all of us using the term know that, and to shorten the lengthy description of yours lets call it 40 chars fli, just as we did.

Its not really 40 char FLI but uses sprites as an overlay on the flibug area. + unlike hires, you can place displayable pixels on the bitmap in the fli bug area

Nice. I also like the scrolling font in the intro. Looks clean somehow. Is it an old one?

oh, so its 40 char wide fli! I was wondering wether its FLI, becuse there seemes to be too many color, but the 40 char width made me think its koala. :)

Thank you all for the good words. It lacks some modern design but we tried to keep it oldskool. What can i say more...HCL did a hell of a job with 40colFLI :) -no copy- of course.

yes, mirage's 'space invaders' and 'mrs pacman'. however his fli-bug areas weren't as much developed as here. at least to my eyes. i suppose mirage didn't use sprite layer with multiplexer, hcl probably did ;) well, i wonder about the amount of sprites over fli :D

Really great collaboration between some of the scenes big guns. Has something for every category. As a n00b coder I'm scratching my head about the 40 chars fli mode... has this been done before?

Such a release is so much more than that typical 'signal-free' IRQ player + some text onscreen stuff. I hope that's the shape of things to come. This tune indicated two great pic. This pack together is more than the tune or the pics separately.

The tune is not really for me / :) / but with objective ears:

Good stuff. 10/10

That tune f-ing rocks! The bass sound is of a true headnodding quality. Yeah!

Nice graphics also. Great concept of releasing stuff in the form of a shaped product. It certainly proves added value. Tnx!
