Oh this is lovely. Gorgeous pics and cracking tune. Props for the memory wrangling to get it to all fit too. | User Comment Submitted by The Shadow on 20 May 2015 User Comment Submitted by Valsary on 2 June 2010
@Digger, @Frantic: These fonts were actually done around 1994 i think, first time used in DS intro
| User Comment Submitted by Digger on 27 March 2010
@Frantic: the blocky hires font actually looks like an improved version of the one I've commited about 20 years ago (was used in Visual Obsession and Satan OK) | User Comment Submitted by DRAX on 27 March 2010 User Comment Submitted by Jammer on 27 March 2010
dkay, you no good you! people thought it was rocket science and you've just ruined everything! /o\ | User Comment Submitted by DeeKay on 23 March 2010
Dudes! FLI Profi V1.0 is from 1993! Yes, that's fucking 17 years ago, that's about as old as Knoeki! <:-)
Colorful FLI gfx is ancient. What's more of a task is actually writing a converter for it, ask Bitbreaker how much fun he had with the NUFLI FLIbug gfx! ;-)
And no, interleaving 2 pics across 3 banks through bankswitching isn't rocket science either, sorry to burst your bubble! ;-D Now that scrolling Royal Arte pic was some truely novel shit.... BACK THEN! 8)
As for the production: Really nice! Gotta say that the music isn't my cuppa tea and neither is the Easy Rider flicker-transition. But the pics are fantastic, i absolutely love Valsary's, it's one of the best he ever made! He still knows the true fine MCol-Pixelart that only so few people can do (Mirage, Hein, Mermaid, Archmage)... So looking forward to more! ;-D | User Comment Submitted by Jammer on 19 March 2010 User Comment Submitted by Joe on 19 March 2010
Great concept, music and artwork! I really like this!
I'm still a bit bothered that the full potential of FLI was somewhat neglected in the remaining 37x25 chars of the screen.
It's a 10 none the less. | User Comment Submitted by HCL on 18 March 2010
It is very much like the interlaced one in Royal Arte, just more colors in the FLI-bug area. At least Valsary's picture has alot more colors, but technically it's the same. Plus this one also changes $d800-colors. | User Comment Submitted by Jammer on 18 March 2010
i bet that hcl had to do bank switching in every line in the beginning and between flibug and proper bitmap area thus sprites were in separate 3rd bank, right? :) and music player was placed on a border :D | User Comment Submitted by WVL on 18 March 2010
I think the main difference is the possibility to switch between 2 pictures..
A FLI pic uses the whole VIC bank, so a 40 col wide picture must use more than 2 banks to make room for the sprites.
I'm guessing it's a pretty nasty puzzle to fit 2 FLI pics + sprites into the memory :)
(then again.. prolly it's not that hard.., just an added complication) | User Comment Submitted by Ksubi on 18 March 2010
Jammer and Clarence: cheers for the explanations...thought I had seen something similar, but not like this. If HCL or others could shed some light on the code behind this? | User Comment Submitted by Clarence on 18 March 2010
Nice prod. Like those floating trees.
Ksubi, some kind of 40 chars wide full FLI pic was done already in Royal Arte a long time ago. Don't know if this one is technically different... HCL? | User Comment Submitted by null on 17 March 2010
No offense, but I think putting "no copy" on your picture looks stupid and takes up unneccisary amounts of pixels.
Other than that, nice release. | User Comment Submitted by Linus on 17 March 2010
What Twoflower said. Pretty awesome Jammer´s high standard sounds, as usual. I don´t really dig the lead work too much tho, I am afraid :P Still, fat shit. | User Comment Submitted by Twoflower on 17 March 2010
Nice, somewhat surrealistic, graphics from both Carrion and Valsary. That Antic-fade by HCL makes it even more surrealistic. Nice production alltogether. | User Comment Submitted by Oswald on 17 March 2010
algo, all of us using the term know that, and to shorten the lengthy description of yours lets call it 40 chars fli, just as we did. | User Comment Submitted by algorithm on 17 March 2010
Its not really 40 char FLI but uses sprites as an overlay on the flibug area. + unlike hires, you can place displayable pixels on the bitmap in the fli bug area | User Comment Submitted by Frantic on 17 March 2010
Nice. I also like the scrolling font in the intro. Looks clean somehow. Is it an old one? | User Comment Submitted by Oswald on 17 March 2010
oh, so its 40 char wide fli! I was wondering wether its FLI, becuse there seemes to be too many color, but the 40 char width made me think its koala. :) | User Comment Submitted by Valsary on 17 March 2010
Thank you all for the good words. It lacks some modern design but we tried to keep it oldskool. What can i say more...HCL did a hell of a job with 40colFLI :) -no copy- of course. | User Comment Submitted by booker on 17 March 2010 User Comment Submitted by plagueis on 17 March 2010
I liked the intro best too! Still everything else was a real treat for my eyes and ears. Great stuff!!! | User Comment Submitted by FATFrost on 16 March 2010 User Comment Submitted by WVL on 16 March 2010
Nice, good to see you're back Val :) | User Comment Submitted by Cresh on 16 March 2010
Top notch.
Great to see Valsary back. | User Comment Submitted by Jammer on 16 March 2010
yes, mirage's 'space invaders' and 'mrs pacman'. however his fli-bug areas weren't as much developed as here. at least to my eyes. i suppose mirage didn't use sprite layer with multiplexer, hcl probably did ;) well, i wonder about the amount of sprites over fli :D | User Comment Submitted by Ksubi on 16 March 2010
Really great collaboration between some of the scenes big guns. Has something for every category. As a n00b coder I'm scratching my head about the 40 chars fli mode... has this been done before? | User Comment Submitted by Richard on 16 March 2010
Great graphics and superb music. :) | User Comment Submitted by NecroPolo on 16 March 2010
Such a release is so much more than that typical 'signal-free' IRQ player + some text onscreen stuff. I hope that's the shape of things to come. This tune indicated two great pic. This pack together is more than the tune or the pics separately.
The tune is not really for me / :) / but with objective ears:
Good stuff. 10/10 | User Comment Submitted by Ed on 16 March 2010
Intro and graphics plus the funky tune gives it a classic touch. | User Comment Submitted by Oswald on 16 March 2010 User Comment Submitted by daison on 16 March 2010
That tune f-ing rocks! The bass sound is of a true headnodding quality. Yeah!
Nice graphics also. Great concept of releasing stuff in the form of a shaped product. It certainly proves added value. Tnx!

...plz send your gfx/mzx ? | User Comment Submitted by Mace on 16 March 2010
Indeed, a combination of gfx and msx like this is very cool.
We could use more like this ;-)

Crap, I hadn't even noticed the 40 col FLI! Nice! | User Comment Submitted by Yazoo on 16 March 2010
well done guys ;-) good pictures. i see, the concept of not just uploading pictures to csdb as single entry is a good one. | User Comment Submitted by Archmage on 16 March 2010
