Yes, I am aware that NTSC-fixing is not a trivial task by any means. I guess what I was after was to see how many first releases a game can really have.
Anyway, I do enjoy this release, and my NTSC SX-64 will be happy too :) | User Comment Submitted by Didi on 3 May 2012
@Sledge: You would not be the first one to fake a game to get a firstrelease, e.g. Cycles +FT
But that's completely off topic because it has nothing to do with this release. Any knowledge about cracking?
NTSC fixing is often much more work than training an unprotected PD game. | User Comment Submitted by Sledge on 3 May 2012
If I change the main sprites to something else, like a pig instead. Would that be a first release too? | User Comment Submitted by Didi on 3 May 2012
OK, let's continue nit-picking if you insist on it:
Onslaught had the PAL ONLY firstrelease, we have the PAL+NTSC firstrelease.
My mind is still at the old rules where only games running PAL & NTSC counted as valid firstrelease. Releasing a PAL ONLY version always carried the risk to lose the points to another group that fixed it or got their version fixed by someone else. With the new ruleset this risk is gone. Maybe because of most people using emulators where you can switch between the standards, so they don't have to care at all. | User Comment Submitted by hedning on 3 May 2012
I still do not agree that you could call it a firstrelease. There can be only one first release of every title, you know. Of course it's the first ntsc-fixed one, but first release does not mean that. Onslaught have the first release of this particular title; you fixed the game - which of course is nice too, and you will get points for that as well. | User Comment Submitted by Didi on 3 May 2012
@hedning: You are right that refering to the current rules it does not take away the points from the PAL ONLY firstrelease, but it's still a firstrelease, because it's the first release fully working PAL & NTSC. With the the old version of the rules it would have taken away the full points from the PAL ONLY version, today it only scores fixing points, but 3 instead of 1 point from the old rules. ;) | User Comment Submitted by hedning on 3 May 2012
Didi: I believe you are wrong. "If someone first releases a PAL (or NTSC) only game, they get the first release points for doing just that, releasing it as first. If another group PAL/NTSC fixes the same game after the 'first release', they will NOT take away the points of the first release, but instead still get fixing points, as that is all they have really done, NTSC fix, the real first release came earlier." | User Comment Submitted by Didi on 2 May 2012
@2F: Refering to the current rules both, the PAL only and the fixed release, are valid. | User Comment Submitted by Twoflower on 2 May 2012
Awesome way to make this the valid firstie. :-) | User Comment Submitted by Dr.j on 2 May 2012
Great job of my old friend Richard Bayliss . great game! | User Comment Submitted by Didi on 2 May 2012
It's the PAL/NTSC compatible firstrelease. Original and Onslaught version were PAL only. | User Comment Submitted by hedning on 2 May 2012 User Comment Submitted by Zyron on 2 May 2012
