I would love to see a 100% of this game on the c64. Who made the sampled tune which is a separate file on the disk though?

Dr.J: Onslaught have an exclusive deal with GTW64; that is how it works.

Populous for C64. Wow, sick.
But the strangest thing about it is to find out via csdb what your friends were doing with their spare time back then. I am going to have a word... I would like to find out more about why they didn't continue.

sorry for lame question: but how sources of GTW64 projects landed eventually to crackers/fixers ? its amaze me the fact
the old sources (really old one) eventually made the way to us. one can write a book about the adventure of alpha or beta version of ancient game to here (the home of c64)

So I managed to convert the original ProfiAss sources to something more modern and build the code. But the result is not 100% working, it seems that the data that is used by the preview build doesn't exactly match what the source expects. The upper half of each tile is not drawn correctly. Also the radar doesn't redraw correctly. I can't figure out what could be wrong, but if anybody is interested in having a look, please contact me. Here's a test build I made: http://twinbirds.com/populous.prg

No intention. :)
Btw, the sources don't match the included preview executable. They seem to be from an older version.

Very interesting. I never expected to see this for real.
Now the source is in horrible condition (ProfiAss, yuck... :), with hardly any useful labels, but the foundation seems to be sound.
Also there's kinda 6502 version of the game, the PC Engine port, which can be used to extract game logic and AI code.

Finally this has been released! I remember seeing the screenshots in 64'er more than 20 years ago! Interesting tech-demo. Too bad that EA was not interested, could have been a nice release...

Wonderful intro! The preview also looks fantastic but as it's from Electronic Arts the final game will never surface, right?
