| Yes it's risky. But I mitigate it by writing stuff I download from here on them. So if it can't be read next week then that's not a big deal. |

| Ah, ok. I thought verify was also the check for the errors. Interesting program but I would guess it's kind of risky to use disks with hard errors on them even if the first format succeeds with this. |

Something like 7:2 here (more saved than not).
If the verify option is turned off then it's one revolution faster per track (~7sec) as it's not checking if the sectors created are really readable.
Of course this option does not affect the measurement part which always does a write and verify to find out where the fault is (2 revolutions).
Turning off verify is useful to save time if a disk image writer is applied afterwards, which does it's own verify anyway. Otherwise I'd not recommend it.
Even with verify it could happen that weak areas read the initial pattern fine (verify succeeds) but writing some other data onto them gets corrupted, or gets only readable most of the time.
Weak areas are caught in the measurement phase as faults, but in rare cases not. Retrying might help, or maybe not ;) |

respect :) when I read
Formatting disks with faults
initially regarded the idea as crazy,
but as you delivered now, I'll definetely try it before I throw the next faulty disk into the dustbin! |
