yeah the perspective is a mismatch for the castle but as I had used somebody else's art I wanted to keep changes to a minimum to avoid pissing him off by editing his pride and joy. I was forced to change the colours of the skyscrapers to work with the pale blue sky but that was as far as i wanted to push it

Wow! Another great remake, good job Steve! I think the background did it's work nicely and is of course very relevant for those of us who have played the game :)
Only thing I would comment is that the castle have a slight "bird" perspective, while the other locations just have the straight-front perspective.

each to his own :) I thought the backgrounds were the good bit. it was the quality of art in the game which convinced me to have a go at it. The montage is faithful to the original box art albeit in a slightly different sequence to keep the image balanced. I didnt think I could do any better than the game artist has and I certainly wasn't going to try and do them at an angle in MC (or "on the piss" ) as we say in the trade so in they went. Its better than the speccy one now anyway and the 16 bit versions :)

I'm also not a fan of putting all the various backgrounds together. Those locations are obviously not close to each other, so somehow the spatial reasoning part of my brain is disturbed by this. :)
The foreground layer is sublime though.

mmmh somehow i find the mix of graphical styles disturbing.... logo and character is excellent, the collage of the backgrounds somehow doesnt match however.

Done on the spur of the moment and may be used in the finished Bombjack DX update. Uploaded here for completeness of my database. Artwork is ofc based on the 1986 Elite version box art and utilises edited versions of the new DX in-game graphic backgrounds.
