Just read the goofs about this crack.

While playtesting and prior to release of the original, Moloch/Triad found a bug whereby using an Action Replay with the fastload installed potentially enabled the player sprite to jump up through the top border into the status bar at the bottom of the screen.

Sailor/Triad found some calls just above $0200 that caused this somehow. In the original, my code clears $0200-$02ff fixing the issue, even though the game doesn't use or call anything in that part of memory. This is noted in the released source code.

This crack reintroduces this bug somehow.
