Just when I think I've seen it all, something new comes along, like this absolutely mindblowing demo.
Great respect 馃憤

I realized I haven't wrote a comment on this masterpiece. I remember sitting in from of my computer asking questions like why? how? Whatttt? while watching this one of a kind demo. It left me in awe and nothing but respect. This idea would have never crossed my mind even if I thought a million years. Huge respect to Reflex and especially Quiss. The effort behind it must have been colossal. What an idea and what an execution! Even the music, man!

@Chico: Well.. I see what you mean, but I'm still not sure if I could bend myself to the point where I see a score of 9.9/10.0 as sad.

Look mum, NO COMPUTER !! I hope that one day this demo can be replicated with computer still attached to the drive. But than again it’ll not be the same. How the hell did you find this out !! Just amazing 鉂わ笍

@quiss: Ah, that's fully driveside then, good!

With the utility loader you could start it with just a single "&" command. i.e OPEN15,8,15,"&" or even @& if you have a cart that supports it.

Not sure which manual I saw it in first but it's described here: http://www.zimmers.net/anonftp/pub/cbm/documents/disk-drives/15..

The dream team comeback with such abnormal demo <3
Great idea. Some effects would be even hard to code on real C64 :)
Impressing music from the drive!

Submitted by Quiss on 16 July 2021
tlr: Not sure about the utility loader, but you can also start the demo with OPEN 2,8,2,"#0": OPEN 1,8,15,"B-E 2 0 18 17".

Please dont update entries with new version - create a new entry if you release a bugfix (this entry is for the compo version) :)

Very impressive, and on top of that you managed to have music too!

Have you considered making a version that boots up using just the using the utility loader (&) ? That could be even be made to autoboot on early 1541's.

This is what I'll present when the next newschool kid thinks bitbanging VGA with a PI is cool!

On a more serious note this demo can not be part of the CSDB as the C64 has been removed in the video we saw... :-)
Just kidding! Well done!

What a crazy demo. I love it.
But the c64 demo categorization is wrong - it should be 1541 demo category :)

OK. A few days have passed. Let's give it a try and give a more critical feedback.
First of all, please help liberate the 1541 from the #8 dictatorship! $ba is your friend.

The demo itself: While the idea to generate video output through serial is cool, it is something that I can imagine working. And we all know that the 41 can produce sounds, but what I hear here is beyond anything I would expect to hear from my 41 pal.. arpeggios from a drive monitor? You gotta be kidding me...!!! For that alone it is a 10. Damn. I wanted to be critical, but I must admit I am just another atomic fanboy.

good stuff, clever use of the hardware.. is it more a knowledge of electronics also + normal dev ? :) . am a bit conflicted about it being a "c64 demo" though.

I guess we now need a new demo category for 1541 demos? Amazing stuff and the music was very impressive too, reminded me of the device orchestra. Just wow.

Don't know what's more insane: this release, teaching the 1541 to create a video out signal, or to have Quiss back in the realm of demomaking on c64.

Absolutely fantastic release!

Blew my mind! Arpeggiated chords with 1541?!
Now let’s make pong with paddle control via serial cable.

Someone should have told me 1985 that the central unit is unnecessary.. You can deal with the 1541 only.. :-D
