I've missed this one.
Lovely, atmospheric demo, great use with lower/upper border. Thumbs up!

PS: ths demo MUST be played with 6581 sid chip... that is what it is created for... Ole Marius and stein created and composed a truly fantastic score to fit everything, but it must be playback with 6581 or else it is all wrong. PAL

Thank you so much for the feedback all of you - and Thunder.Bird... I am so happy you posted that... that is the sole of this demo and my story in this... that it touches you in that way is for me to know someone understands me and your feedback is so great to get. Thank you all for appreciating a naked all true story and not just a new dysp in the border with rastersplits under ;-)

It was incredible strange for me at Gubbdata to give so much of my self... in a way it was very energizing in the aftermath - Love you all my fellow sceners. Take care of each others!

Superb. Amazing hi-res graphics, subtle highlights of colour and a brilliant soundtrack all there to hold up a narrative and elegant piece of design. Top work from everyone involved.

I always loved Hollowman's "emo demos", and am happy to see more. Beautiful work, all involved!

To create something like this (I consider it not too to be released at all) and actually release it made me quite small in my seat at the demo compo at GubbData (many have sent pm.to me on fb and other social media about this, thank you for all your thoughts) - but it was the right place to release this demo with these heavy thoughts that are all real. At the very moment our demo had been shown I felt it was in a way other than all other demos ever, that feeling was very special and very lonesome...something else, so true and all completely naked compared to all releases with an extra sprite or something technical splendour, or even humor, jus something I could dear to do about my life in a way?... I was crying when I saw it on the big screen, it is too personal and too special for me. Stil I hope it will be named a demo as demo is our domain of releases.... I do not think it should be in another category like a c64 movie or such... it is what it is and it is a demo on our splendid c64...

This felt like nothing I have felt before... I felt all completely naked and all honest, just a true story from my life and so personal that it almost ate me all up in the creation of it. That was what I wanted for it to be, all real for me and then hopefully for all that really enjoy it with the old sid and Stein and Oles music... Ole really went all aboard on this one, hundreds of hours he used on the tune and me many many hundreds of hours in thoughts and then on the graphics to make it be true me in it all... . It meant the world for me to create this demo the last two years and it is me in all scenes and now my boat is floating after 8 years and I am having a blast in it finally again. I will grasp for them stars and listen to my best friends,

Thank you all for all of your comments and votes and thank god or whatever for us to have a common platform where we can be only the true us, always.

This meant the whole world for me to do.

Your PAL of Hope you enjoyed the truest demo I could ever create for you and also for me ♥

I always like art/content-based demos more, and this one is really outstanding (graphics, music, everything) and inspiring. It was very clever to select silhouettes and add details by overlayed sprites, perfect fit for the C64.
I second Skate that this kind would deserve a separate category to have a fair competition. ('C64 Movie' maybe)

I've similar feelings with Jammer. The artistic, poetic part is good but at the end i don't feel like i've watched a c64 demo. CSDb needs a poetic demo category. ;)

how i miss this kind of demos! there was a time when they could be observed more frequently, remember kid? yeah, a long time ago, when the snow was whitier and the urine yellower :|
thanks Pal for the pearl, never thought something like this would come from your direction. personal, touching, excellently pixeled and soundtracked, 10/10 it must be <3

Very beautiful, and sad of course.. Pal just told me that Remains makes him sad rather than happy, but he still likes to watch it. Well, i can say the same about this demo then :).

The art and music is amazing, and putting this together with code is also outstanding! I recognize the story, and even though far from being close, it do hurt to understand things been very hard for years. My hope is that it is better now. I see the sequence of the boat and fishing, and the lighthouse scene of the typical norwegian town. The new chapter in life! Lets celebrate, and have many to come nice partys together! :) The demo would also be excellent for a game concept. I love the way the story is presented, it gives a "Defender of the Crown" and "It came from the desert" feel with all the high-quality sequences of animations and the way the dialogues intrigue! Great work! Cheers!

Wow, the soundtrack is especially amazing! I have a 6581R4 in my SIDFX and I love how the lead distorts... Dunno if it's meant to distort quite that much though, because the R4 is pretty unique — I wonder which 6581 the tune is originally made for?

Best demo-experience i've had in 10 years or so. This really touched me.
A movie-like narrative combined with great animation, perfectly fitting music and those parallax-effects sums up to a great, sad, experience.
Thank you for doing and sharing this, I understand it must have been a hard production to make.

Wow.. This really moved me. Great musics and graphics and texts. (gotta mention also the fire animation, although it feels stupid to even mention such a technical detail..)

Very lovely production with very hard-hitting content.

Pal, after our chat saturday afternoon (thank again for the beer :)) and watching this I now see why you described it as very personal...

And what Shadow said...

This demo has a Panoramic Design core, brought to perfection by the obvious guys of Offence and Prosonix!

The story being told by the demo will touch any viewer, no way around that. I deeply adore how you manage to bring this cineastic flow onto the c64 - this is digital art in its purest form. Unfortunately, it's almost never a party-compatible crowd-pleaser, which is another major big point in my book!

I bow to this prod, and I bow to you guys for having created it!

Nice atmospheric demo, some screens ("as i started into the screen ... my life slipped away...") hit a little too close to home for comfort almost.
Technical work is solid, with the upp/lower border in constant use, and the overlaid sprites to create little specks of color in some scene was well done. Animations were really smooth as well.

Talked to some other Gubbdata visitors after the compo and we all agreed that it was a great demo, but it might be hard to appreciate it properly in that setting. Still, I predicted it would have a podium finish, but I guess it just missed out.

I find it a little bit depressing... Design's really good but I object the statement.

I liked how each screen was designed with upper and lower border in mind.
Animation throughout looks very good. Especially during the screen featuring the flame and the two boozers.
Audio was fitting.
Congrats! ^_^

Not quite new. It harks back to era of Fairlight story/moral demos. However, I sense it's way more personal production hence even more harrowing.

I don't know what to write so many emotions. The demo is amazing like a screenplay from a movie. I really respect everyone who worked on this release.

This is one of my two favorites from the compo. The amount of emotions that I believe the majority of the attendees felt during the compo cannot be expressed in words, at least not by me.
A truly touching production with impeccable presentation from start to end.

Compo favorite for me too, a straight 10. A gutsy party relase but it worked! Probably the first time I've experienced a completely silent Gubbdata audience (except for a well-mannered applause here and there). <3

Outstanding! The music/sound design is so masterfully executed that after first viewing I can close my eyes, let the demo loop, and know exactly what goes on just by the soundtrack.

This one is very touching, and a favourite for me. I can understand that the untz-untz lovers might have voted a bit lower for it, but the narrative, and expression is ace here. Beautiful demo. Thank you guys.
