yea ok. well... this is a masterpiece. the proportions of the girl dont seem wrong to me at a first look. but maybe the left leg may be a bit "too high" to be correct... doesnt matter to me. the only thing i am not 100% happy with is the sky on the left. rest is just brilliant to be honest. i dont like this nufli or whatever mode too much because for me its some kind of a .jpg format for the c64 (you may just google for oil paintings or other drawings and convert them and you will have a winner) but thats maybe just me and doesnt matter much. i know veto did everything by hand - just talking in general.

I always loved this game. The fight between Buchu and "Fans" is on!

Great work. Amazing detail.

My favourite at the compo. By far.
But somehow I'd like to see more contrast between the two figures and the background...

@ Frantic: easy on the inhaler, dude! ;-)

It is weird.. When I look at this picture I get the impression that I am looking at a different picture "behind" the actual pixels.. Let me explain... Somehow, when I look at this, I almost experience a picture with sub-pixel precision, although the pixelling style is somehow "sketchy". ..as if there is more than the pixels as such, and as if the picture was implied by the pixels rather than directly depicted by the pixels. The result is, as I said, that I almost see a sub-pixel precision picture in here. This is way different from how I see pictures from Archmage, Mirage, or STE'86 or so. When I look at their pictures I really rather see the pixels as the atomic building blocks of the picture. Was that comprehensible? Maybe it was just an over-analysis of something trivial? Dunno... :)

Though some could say there's nothing new from Veto here, I'm glad there was a wall behind me when I saw this.

The anatomy on the girl isn't wrong, she's a sturdy bitch :-D

archmage - my first thought was: oops, damn i missed that point...

seriously the result makes me happy, regardless of flaws. and thanks to all your votes at x. i have no words for this, especially there were so many other excellent pics in the compo... duce, louie, sit, carrion, deev, bimber (to name a few) - you all deserved first place...

speaking of flaws: think it is no news that there are often issues with perspective, anatomy or composition in my pictures. that is exactly why i deal with that. just love to challenge myself, even though there is always risk of new fractures in the wallpaper... for same reason i truly appreciate critics

If I voted at X’2010, it might have gone something like:

#1 Don’t Turn/Ooz
I really like this picture. I think it’s my favourite from X’2010. I love all the obvious manual labour.

#2 25 Years of Yie Ar Kung-Fu /Veto
Great NUFLI image, and manages not to look like a ZX Spectrum image. The foliage to the lower left works really well. I’m not to sure about the female to the left.

#3 Must Ache the Moustache /Duce
Great use of hires. Upper and lower border always gets a thumbs up. I don’t know what it is, but some hires seem a bit more ZX Spectrum than others.

Good to see a lot of entries to this years X, just too bad many of them look like they have at some point be passed through a converter.

VEto's done it again. I really like this one, it seems a lot more detailed than previous Veto pics, and the transitions between colors seem smoother too.

Hmm.. I may be a lamer, but what exactly is supposed to be wrong with the anatomy in this pic?

What Archmage said, great feedback. My favorite Veto pics have been the earliest ones (Breath, Strangers, and Xray) because with those, precise anatomy wasn't necessary and the subject matter worked well with the style. Anyway, congratulations!

Again I find myself a bit divided when it comes to Veto's pictures. With two successive wins in a row and out of respect I think he deserves an honest opinion instead of just the usual "whoa amazing!" pat on the back, so here goes. The theme is nice and interesting, the colours are very well applied, and the workload that has gone in to this is of course quite heavy. Even so, I find myself struggling when it comes to matters like anatomy, depth of field and the tablet based approach which I think makes it all a bit messy and half finished. I feel that the picture is left hanging at a stage where the real pixel work begins. That said, it is absolutely in the top three at the X competition this year. And congratulations on the first place of course!

Edit: I didn't really want to take my criticism down to the level of nitpicking about details, I just wanted to explain my feelings about it rather than focus on flaws and come off as all cocky and jealous - because I am not, and I really like Veto for being the nicest guy under the sun and I have deep respect for his work. But, I said A and since Frantic asks me to say B, here's my five cents about anatomy. Try to picture the girl without her clothes (shouldn't be that hard after a lifetime of doing so, eh? ;)) and see how the thighs attach to a pelvis that is too wide in relation to the rest.

I would like to vote this a 9/10, but I can't, because I feel the solid blue sky on the upper left unbalances the rich detail in all other parts of the picture. CSDb does not let me vote an 8.5/10 which I would, in consideration of the flaw that I found with the picture. And I certainly won't vote an 8/10, as that would be downvoting this pic.
-Consequently, I just simply enjoy it (except for that damn chunk of blue), without voting.

Anyone else noticed how cleverly Veto's signature is hidden in the organic pattern of the foliage?

The 130 hours you spent pixeling on this really payed off. :-) State of the art. Great way of utilizing NUFLI.
