Ex member of : Compunet Computer Club, NATO (1988 -> 1990), South East Cracking Group (1987 -> 1988)
Functions : Coder, Graphician, Logo Graphician
Handle alternative spelling :
SteveDay72, SD7, Steve Day, Steve'87, Steve'88, Steve'89
Handlestory :
The SD7 handle was my Compunet user ID.
Some people confuse me with the other "Steve Day" (STE'86) who is famous in the 8-bit world for his graphics.
Trivia :
Compunet ID: SD7
I grew up in Eltham, London (UK) and moved to Texas (USA) in 2000 after getting married.
I often signed my demos as "Steve", sometimes with the last two digits of the year (ie: "Steve'87", "Steve'88")
I was a member of NATO (UK) for a while, before dropping out of computers entirely for a while in 1991, when I sold my Amiga 500 to help buy my first car.
I messed around a little with x86 assembly on my dad's 8086 based Amstrad PC (I coded one of those procedural fire routines, dabbled with custom characters, and small things like that). I couldn't understand its memory segmentation.
In 1994 I was lured back to computers after playing the original DOOM. I worked hard and saved enough to build my first PC based around an i486SX-33 and it had a whopping 210MB HDD!! ¦D
I got into the wonderful world of full-color graphics, studied HTML&Javascript, I learned some C, and did enough x86 assembly that I could "patch" software. In 1997 I became a self-employed programmer and released a commercially sold plugin for a popular 3D ray-tracing package.
I ended up working as a freelance web-developer and sysadmin, plus did some film/TV work on the side as an extra (starting with Star Wars Episode I during the summer of 1997).
In 2000 I came to Texas to visit my fiancé and we went on a road trip. Unfortunately I'd worn myself out and developed severe mononucleosis/glandular-fever (which I'd had previously when I was 16 and it never fully went away). This time it turned into a full-blown case of CFS/ME. I was bed-bound for weeks, still in Texas, where I came to realize I couldn't bear to be apart from my fiancé and we got married. So I ended up filing for residency and have been here ever since.
The CFS/ME is more manageable now, but not enough that I can say I'll do "X" on day "Y", so I still cannot work.
Nowadays I rescue cats (or any animal that comes my way needing help). I also love movie props, particularly Star Wars props (blasters, lightsabers, etc), which I build from time to time. I am into DIY, not for fun as much, but rather for the money saving (and because I don't trust the average contractor/plumber/electrician to do work as good as I can).
I do hope to make another C64 demo or even a game, and take notes of ideas when I get them. Right now the house is in such a state that I don't even have a safe place to set up the C64s and code... The DIY will solve that problem - eventually!
