Joe style images

Years ago while looking at an image in a magazine, looking really close at the print, as the image was a still from a film, the idea hit me, that a similar idea might be possible on 64. That was around 1993. After some messing around, I gave up, and thought the idea on 64 was nuts.

Then in recent times, having seen some of Joe / WD images, and the patterns he uses to create images, reminded me of the idea above.

Today I had a mess around, and I think I hit on something that is not too far off what Joe / WD images might start of looking like. Obviously taking the idea beyond 4 colours, anti aliasing, extra polish would be the next step in the phase.

Another step might include ever more inventive patterns that fit, that generate the extra shades.

@Joe I would deff view your images as having a style. A style associated with Joe / WD, at least within the realms of the Commodore 64

I am Spartacus! ..am i doing it rite?

@oys: i do hope we see a similar styled pic at some point. to be honest, i've tinkered around with a few old unworthy pics to try and emulate. Any further releases on that style will will be gleefully hurrahed.

talking about style and technique...

Joes "Style" isn't alone in the technique he uses.. it's the combination of composition AND technique. And that's what makes Joes images unique is the high level of perfection in both of these. I mean.. if you take a picture I have pixeled (and we all know they are far from perfect in technique and composition) and repixel it with a halftone pattern it won't make it a "joe styled" picture..

my 2 cents

Interesting turn of the discussion above.

The only element that makes a picture Joe-stlye - is Joe.

You can use any advanced technique - the original idea and attitude behind that make something real.
