SIDs that aren't in HVSC yet: part IV

After 317 posts in the previous one, I thought it is time again for a new thread. :-)

How about this one: Let's Party - at least I did not find any SID by that name done by Alien.

There's a mistake in the STIL info to Moon Patrol

It's credited as a cover of Moon Patrol by Bad Brothers, which is by Atarisoft (Namco?), of course.

WOW, indeed a big facepalm =D Badbros were a cracking group of course. Fixed in script.
Anyway also
/MUSICIANS/A/Ames_John/Moon_Patrol.sid
mentions in the comment "Bad Bros. Inc", now I'm confused. ;)

ok, did some research and
http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greve_Graphics
says "Lars Hard had a leading role in the company and took care of business negotiations, but programmed also music system in the GG's all the products, and composed the music and created sound effects " (google translated)
so we can safely assume it's by him, credited and moved in script.

I have already thought to make a comment about this weirdo conversion above. It's truly whack but definately meant to be Stairway to Heaven.

this one needs to be played in NTSC:

I don't even know why we keep it in HVSC... used too many times it seems. let's fix it for ntsc then, but for me should be simply deleted.

would be nice, ask also about

if we can assume all American Action games made by Greve Graphics in 1986 are using tunes from him, this will be included aswell.

Guess for the usage in an old TSM intro, also it's one of the better Sidplayer tunes as far as I know such at least.

Enjoining (intro)

That tune, if it was really released first in the Enjoining S451 demo, which the .sid file name indicates is from 1988, not 1987. The other tunes used, Professional BMX Simulator and Battle Valley, were both published in 1988 and the greetings list is 1988'ish aswell, e.g. Orion and Zenith who were formed early January 1988 resp. February 1988 are among the list.

ok according to current evidences it's really 1988, just for the record you sent it set to 1987 in Update #45, in the mean time it was recognized by Capt Rock himself but nobody checked if the date was correct. Fixed now in script.

actually this is even earlier (january) Salzgitter Breeze
and prolly Sidchip Score #09 is the more correct name to give since it's the official SCS release.
More Shavitt tunes show the same naming problem, will fix some more.

not sure it counts as a proof, look how they wrote it:
"beat-box?? <<music>>"
i suspect they didn't have a clue themselves who did it and made a wild assumption. The tune was thought for long time by Felix Schmidt, but he denied making it.

ok, let's move it then. also /DEMOS/UNKNOWN/Iron-Drums.sid seems a digi edited Evolution.sid, and according to the scroller in Iron-Drums seems that Eric de Jong/FE is really responsible for this edit, credited and moved to /DEMOS aswell.

Los Angeles Police Department

This is (C) 1991 Players, which is the budget label of Interceptor.

Here's a picture of the packaging: http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Los-Angeles-Police-Department-Commodore-..

Also if you complete a level you hear a jingle which is not in the HVSC file yet.

Inside it says: "copyright (c) 1991 interceptor ltd" so it's either one or the other, but ok, let's change it to Players.
About the jingle, luckily it only needs to fix the init to allow selecting the subtunes, will do it now.

then you are discussing the wrong thing, and the copyright means nothing at all - because its equally likely that the one who owns the copyright was'nt the one doing the actual release =)

wtf are you saying? YOU are entered into the discussion with this copyright thing, we only care to state who released the tune, not who held the copyright which changes with time and that's the reason the field has been changed to RELEASED.

I just discovered an interview with Karsten Obarski

"4-Which composing programs have you been using? Which one in particular?

In the times of the "64" i've used Chris Hülsbecks "Soundmonitor" to implement
some music-tunes in my Codings..."

http://amp.dascene.net/detail.php?view=3982&detail=interview

This means SID tunes by him are existing.

and infact seems missing, could be by Midas himself but there's no other hint than being coded by him and tune is in FC.
EDIT: searching with some pattern seems to have the same melody of
/MUSICIANS/C/Connolly_Sean/Flying_High.sid
but player is different, it's Odie's own player, probably the FC tune is the original and has been imported, dunno really.

"Mission Elevator" does not have any kind of music, just sfx.
The confusion is maybe due to wrong releases like
Elevator Music
even if this refers to "Elevator Action" (different game) it's not using Whittaker_David/Elevator_Action.sid but Daglish_Ben/Bens_Music_Selector.sid sub#11

There's plenty of info wrong in the David Whittaker files, here are some corrections:

/All Terrain Vehicle Simulator

MAD/Mastertronic

/Back to the Future II
Image Works

/BraveStarr
1987 (December)

/Cheap Skate
1988 (August)

/Dark Castle
1988 (February)

/Defcom
1986 (November)

/Dynamic Duo
1989 Firebird (SPU is the development team)

/Exterminator
1990 (December) (confusion might be due to another game called Exterminator from 1988)

/Helter Skelter
Audiogenic (Double Vision Software is the development team)

/Iron Horse
1988 (April)

/Last Mission
1987 (August) US Gold (1986 is when the Data East arcade came onto the market)

/Living Daylights
full name is 'The Living Daylights'

/Panther
Entertainment USA (Mastertronic's label for US originated games, mostly from a team called Sculptured Software)

/Poltergeist
1988 (May)

/Real Ghostbusters
full name is 'The Real Ghostbusters'

/Spitting Image
1988 (December)

/The Wizard's Pet
MAD/Mastertronic also there is no ' in the game title -> 'The Wizards Pet'

As Entertainment USA is just a label it's of course (C) company Mastertronic and the production of the tape etc. was done in Great Britain of course. The game was programmed by Americans but initially published in the UK.

The Fusion crack inside ATV Simulator is from 1987, done just after Christmas 1987. See also in the game: cracked in 1987 by Fusion. All the other cracks found are from January 1988. I think leaving it as 1987 is fine.

That would mean that it could be by Pilot aka Pim/Loudness, makes sense as he was in Solar, Loudness and Digital Arts.

update has been applied, and all new tunes - well almost, those which I cared to leave a link in the script - are linked to their entries.

Considering there's some half sfx/half music stuff in HVSC by Galleon, it's not so much "of course" (it's got even a drum beat)

oh cmon, they're just 2 sfx that are played when the 2 sprites bounce on the upper/lower and left/right limits. ($0980/09a4)
in no way i can consider it music
even /MUSICIANS/G/Galleon/Explozion_Intro.sid is a proper music in comparison.

Two jingles for Get Ready and Game Over are missing, also it's been published under the M.A.D. Games label.

this can be dated back 1992, the binary at HVSC is probably a rebuild made in 1993 as stated inside, but the music data are exactly the same, just at different offset (and relocated)

First of all, thanks for a great HVSC-update!

Check out Headache from Firebird (1984):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvjzIGqQfh0

The title/ingame-theme has already been ripped, and is nothing too special. But there are a few interesting snippets/sfx. I suppose the composer is John Menzies, as he's credited for special effects.

Hello everybody,
There's a game music which has not been ripped yet: Galactic Muncher (http://www.gb64.com/game.php?id=3017&d=18&h=0). Many years ago someone told me that it was very difficult to rip, so I wonder if anyone wants to try it again... There are four or five short pieces of music, each one playing at a specific level. I like these pieces very much.
Thanks in advance!

all verified and present in HVSC, many on his site are older rips than the ones currently in, due to fixes made in the meantime.

Some remixes by Drake might be worth being ripped and added (checked and either no match with SIDknown or only XY% with original as in Shadow Skimmer)

Masterpiece
Contact Newline

Maybe it even makes sense to check the few other releases where
Drake
is credited

1st demo contains no remix at all, all known stuff.
The Contact Newline tune is an hexedited Shadow Skimmer, very borderline, not really sure it qualifies as a remix, let's close one eye and both ears and add it anyway.
rest of the entries are ok, filled a couple, and read what I already wrote in Turbo Hack V1

Another one I get multiple wrong matches from SIDKnown for (which I all checked)
Royal Crown
Seems to be some Sound Monitor like player (maybe some RockMon version) and SIDKnown poured out a flood of tunes from Sound Mon and its likes, but it's most definetely none of those:

I don't use sidknown on packed prgs, too misleading. I don't even take into consideration sidknown output with so low percentages. If it can be unpacked, do it, then use hexedit to manually search the tune and prg2sid as needed.
In that demo there is music only in part 3, so what sidknown finds in memory are only traces of a charpacked soundmonitor tune which can be anything. using unp64 and p2s:
found as: /MUSICIANS/M/MC/Ode_to_Martin.sid (100%)

Actually I DID use a very rough rip after unpacking and also checked p2s but next time I'll give unp64 a chance.

Thx, anyway :)

Parker Bros - Frogger, released on cartridge. Sierras version is already in HVSC. Mayhem has a dump but it's a 16kb ROM and I've seen others which were only 8kb. Looks like the last 8kb is empty or 'noise' though.

Ok Frogger_Parker_Bros.sid ripped. I don't know how better name it as there is already /GAMES/A-F/Frogger.sid and should be put in the same /GAMES/A-F/ directory, not having even a clue who could be the author.

I think the music (a bunch of christmas songs) from Jingle Disk has not already been ripped.
