I guess, it would be good to decide first, whether you want this to be a hires editor only, or develop it into a multiformat editor in the end.
For the clash thing, i rather have autofix options optional, like automatically change of color etc. I like to keep other options open, like to move parts of the picture to circumvent clashes rather than having it "autofixed".

I made the lower resolution version at the end...it was not a big deal. But in next version I really plan it to be flexible.

Dane: The overlay sprite was mentioned in the context of SPRedit which this project forked from... Btw, it wouldn't be hard (just a matter of time) to make the exporter do overlay-sprites for the bitmap.
Isildur: Your tips are quite good. Especially the automatic clash-avoidance, that might really make hires work faster :) We'll see... Also, AFLI export would be an easy job, multicolor might take some more modifications to the overall concept...

The editor is all kinds of awesome - but when I read the first notes you wrote something about a sprite-layer so I was kind of hoping for that option. :) No worries, however, can probably work it out myself if needed.

Hermit, It looks like the Hermires will be the best and revolutionary hires editor :)
How about expanding TestClash option, for example:
- IF clash THEN stop painting
- IF clash THEN paint with existing color
- IF clash THEN paint with selected color and change existing color to selected
It would be very helpful.

How about "[" and "]" to decrease/increase brush diameter? (Photoshop friendly)
And finally it would be silly not to ask you for more formats like Multi or even FLI/AFLI :D

Here we go with the 1st update. The README.txt file contains the list of improvements (and ToDo):

added in 1.1:
-more Undo/Redo steps than 16 (Flea asked) - now 255 steps (and memory usage grown to 26M)
-colour picker (Flea asked) (pressing TAB, or l/r mouse-buttons with Shift)
-loadable .vpl palette (it's path & name saved to the HermIRES.cfg configuration/initialization file)
-settings and paths/filenames are saved to config-file now (grid/testclash/gridbright/palette/etc)
*32 bit linux version beside 64bit (32bit version might need liballegro...)
-grid more intelligent - in lower magnifications only 8x8 grids show up
*possible to change colours in a 8x8 block - with Control+Mouse-button
-blinking selection rectangle and line/shape previews..

fixed in 1.1:
-pixel coordinates were displayed when not in drawing area
-ctrl+B was binded twice :O - used Shift+S instead
-corrected colour-mismatches of the examples
*fixed pasting sluggishness on windows (used DrawGrid+blitter instead of direct 'screen', optimized code)
-changed text-background to less eye-catcher blue/purple, as noticed by Flea
-normal faster filled circle and rectangle drawing when no dithering mode or diameter set

Oh, and sorry, there's no lower resolution for this version yet, but the next version will be able to switch between different Window-sizes to fit resolutions.....
