Nostalgia only supports real hardware and accurate emulation. If something doesn't work take up with whoever made the faulty emulator/hardware.

Works finde on CC64S, but doesn´t work on MiST FPGA :-/

@TheRyk: I found out it works with Internet Explorer and not with Firefox. Thanks!

depending on your browser, normally "full"

and be careful to remove/untick all those additional ticks in the shockwave installer like norton snake oil or google chrome as default browser etc.

Submitted by Yogibear on 27 August 2014
@TheRyk: Thanks! Should I use Full or Slim Other Browsers?
User Comment
Submitted by TheRyk on 26 August 2014
@yogi: that's the one. got it on CD but afair you could play the same version in browser with shockwave plugin.

Ah, found it with wayback, no idea if this still works:

China Miner could also use some polishing...
User Comment
Submitted by Yogibear on 26 August 2014
It wouldn't add to the gameplay but would look even nicer. And there are fastloaders.
But yeah there is a very good Windows version :

also great that everything is controllable by joy port 2, so you can play it on DTV as well.

OT/DOTC @Yogi/Oswald: I basically agree with Oswald. Moreover, there is already the official "Defender of the Crown - Digitally Remastered Edition" around form some ten years. Some years ago even playable on browser. Apart from polished gfx & music it was pretty much the same game as the c64 classic
User Comment
Submitted by Oswald on 25 July 2014
DOTC has one of the best ingame graphics already. Polished ifli gfx would just kill its charm & loading times and add nothing to the gameplay.
User Comment
Submitted by Yogibear on 25 July 2014
How about a Defender of the Crown remake with IFLI pics?!

Thumbs up!

If some people go on improving arcade conversions I suggest adding dial-controls for Ikari Warriors and Midnight Resistance (both use a dial-stick for choosing the shooting direction. Perhaps some keys could assume that function)

Now, if only someone could update the graphics for Green Beret.

Great music by 6R6! Fits perfectly to that version. If I'd want to hear Hubbard, I'd play the original version.

here's a thought tho... Who Dares wins basic gameplay and level design with the admittedly better commando sprites bolted in and uprated graphics...
User Comment
Submitted by STE'86 on 26 May 2014
I always liked Who Dares Wins myself.
It was far more tactical than Commando's button mashing, and the ability to throw grenades on the diagonal made it a very different game.
User Comment
Submitted by Stinsen on 26 May 2014
Pretty much the only game I could complete without cheating. :) Great stuff indeed!
User Comment
Submitted by Tom-Cat on 26 May 2014
Well, to me Who Dares Wins was always Commando in slow-motion :) It is a nice game with some nifty features, but the pacing of Commando was spot-on.

Hah, what Burglar said! Who Dares Wins owns Commando ;)

a cool trainer would have been: "would you like to play with the new fixed sprite multiplexer routine or keep the good old glitch"? :) I don't know what you think, but for me when in commando the action was intense and you started to shoot and throw bombs like hell that sprite glitch + music slowing down was a fantastic *feature* and part of the game, not a bug at all!... :)
I'm kidding, of course.. :)

AWESOME!

Yes, I agree. Other C64 games could do with more polish. Perhaps we will see updated versions of Street Fighter II, Double Dragon, and Cisco Heat!

THAT WAS.... FUN!!! Awesome idea! havent tried the cheats yet, as I am used to completing the game 10 times in a row on the original, I expect to get back into shape and do this the right way sooner or later :-)

Awesome job, very well done. Nice loader picture, really high quality and cool tune too! I preferede the original music and SFX for the game though - but hey! I am a Hubbard fan and this is how Commando sounds in my mind, so - nothing wrong with the new version. Just my personal preferences.

Thumbs up team!

Great release! And I agree with Matt, Ghost n Goblins has the same problems as Commando (only limited levels, lots of flickering), and probably has lots of similarities code-wise. Bring it on!

Very impressive and I love the idea of improving arcade conversions. :) What stood out to me the most was the nice chopper-scenes and the sprite multiplexer. So much stuff going on on the screen without the C64 breakin' a sweat! Amazing selection of versions (for different hardware) too.

(One idea I got when I played this was how it would sound with a 1 channel Hubbard bass/drums-track + new sfx in the other 2 sid-voices.)

Also a note to different versions:

FL (FileLoader) version should work on all devices. It still has a custom loader for 1541, 1571, 1581, etc. most common devices though. It will work nicely on SD2IEC, IEC2ATA, IDE64, etc. and will use your speeder of choice (JiffyDos, Dolphin,...)

IFFL version will work on the most usual devices as all IFFL loaders do. It will be much faster on those devices too compared to the FL version. It is also the only version that supports REU (256kb required, whole game will be loaded to memory!)

EasyFlash version doesn't need much info. It will save highscores to cartridge of course and those highscores are compatible with FL version too!

Have fun !
