I still think it's incomprehensible that LMan got so good so quick, you gotta have practiced for years. How else would it possible to take such a leap in sound design and modern composing on a single sid chip. It really does all sound like 2sid... truly brilliant

LMan: I fully follow you on that post and man you should just lean back and all let it in... this is a stright 10 of 10 tune and it is probably one of the absolutely best performances on the sid chip ever: LOVE IT - EMBRACE IT - EGO IT - PUT IT INSIDE YOUR HEART!

I have never won any competitions, neither in music nor in visual arts. I have waited my whole fucking life for a success like this. I owe you to go a little into detail about the technique.
Magnar was guessing right about THCM's engine. I'll now explain why it is not Amiga music, not at all, even though the .mod Format is involved. :)
It is fair to say that the .mod format, while having its origin on the Amiga, has evolved into a common, cross platform format. No Amiga or emulation thereof was used in the production of this song. THCM doesn't release the tool, which is a marvellous technical achievement on the c64, for exactly that reason: to prevent a flood of Amiga mods being converted and sold as SID.
In this song, you are listening to 2 SID channels plus 3 digi channels. It was created simultaneously on several cross platform tools:
- Propellerhead Reason for sound and chord design
- Audacity to chop samples
- CheeseCutter for SID composing
- OpenMPT for more Sample editing and the sample based composing
- THCM's tool to combine them both into a c64 executable
When composing the song, both parts SID and Sample were built up part for part simultaneously in CC and OpenMPT. Kudos to Mr. SID for figuring out how I did the hihats. None of the sounds you hear in this production would not be possible on the Amiga, and many not on the SID, because they are a combination of the SID abilities and the corresponding Sample. The mod part alone sounds incredibly Lo-Fi and does not work at all standalone, because the concept of the song is that the mod part delivers only the low end spectrum of the song.
The SID controls the filter on the mod all the time, and I took tremenodus care to make each combined SID+Sample sound great while never opening the filter so much as to make the aliased lofi sample sound audible.
To sum it up, the sample part is playing at lofi 7.8khz. You don't reaize that because all its deficits are covered up by the SID part.
Achieving this particular sound would not be possible on any other machine, and since it plays flawlessly on my factory default c64, I declare this song 100% pure SID. :) |

As soon as I saw THCM behind the code, I presume this is the same replayer as used in Comaland The-end part. Meaning, you are all listening to an Amiga module being playbacked on C64.
