Wonderful made, I'm very surprised! Even the graphics are very beautiful and the navigation is very plausible. Very cool that you can choose your language even during the game. Unfortunately the game save function doen't work yet correctly and crashes after loading a saved game. Our official vote and personal impressions will be published on this saturday dureng the next RetroVision-Show on Twitch. See you in the chat if you like. :-)

bugs will be changed for v1.1 ;-)
In progress and in fact all known bugs are already fixed here.
For those who are interessted in the masking routine, here is a little demonstration of it (a single room):

veto, yeah well I guess its a matter of taste afterall. like in the case of background music :) anyway it must have been a huge work, and the game works like a charm- great effort.

Thank you all for the nice words, constructive criticism and bug reports. highly appreciated :)

@Oswald: Well, this 3-tone-impression for the bg-gfx is mainly because of the charmode restrictions. Items and also the cookie cutter demand strictly assigned luminance for the fixed colors incl black. So there is a maximum of 9 to 10 colors each room... IMO limited color schemes with mixed resolutions are quite effective under these circumstances (btw 5 to 7 colors per screen here).

Technical, graphical and musical brilliance. Sometimes I would stay in a room for long time only to look at the visuals and hear more of the music.

Although I am not an RPG fan, this game is brilliant. Lovely graphics and animation. Excellent music. This must be a real winner for the compo ;)

Best.Adventure.Ever.
In terms of graphics & interface / engine.
I really love the whole theme and style. It's amazing what can be done in char mode with multiple charsets.
Would like to have a look into the scripting language. How is it built up? :)

animated huge fish-tank ftw!

I'm seriously amazed by the superb quality, massive amount of content and the great playability.
sure, it's got some quirks, but making all this and hit the deadline deserves nothing but praise. /me tips his hat.

Oswald: All backgrounds are in charmode ;)

celticdesign: If you mean switching between msx and sfx in each location, I'd have to ask enthusi, however, I didn't plan such. Music and sfx at once are not really possible in our configuration :)

Way cool and well done!!!
Love all the gfx/sfx/msx and the gameplay.
Would be great having music /background sfx at all locations.
Looking forward to play bug-fixed or final version!

awesome job guys! some nitpickings tho: I prefer zak mckracken styla backgrounds, here often it felt like 3 color demo pictures (not that they werent top quality). more colors please. also lucas games made sure actions only happen when the actor stays near them, to me it felt more real and neat that the actor always took care to go there where he did something. also the two types of cursor could be more different, hard to see it change when it moves and flashes. maybe hand and aimer? also ingame music feels strange, to me the sound effects clocks ticking, water running, were more immersing, however primitive they were. btw loved the alien-esque music notes where the body in water is seen, that one was well played.

Awesome game! Playing it right now, but found a nasty bug in the computer room, when all descriptions in German are OK whilst in English are empty. When pressing F7 for save position in this room the screen breaks and there are only glitches visible - forever, you must reset C64, reload the game and restore saved position with F1.

Excellent, so much detail in the settings and animations. I'm not certain about the dialogue and story (yet). Need some more time to play it further. The music adds nicely to the overall atmosphere.

very nice game but it seems to get stuck when you try to exit the sewers again. you can't leave the room after you saw what happened to the thing in the plastic bag.

Ok, had a quick look around this one, and I must say it looks, sounds and plays GREAT!

However, I already encountered quite a lot of "bugs", probably due to the deadline (but then again, without a deadline we would probably not have gotten this):
- The "walk" icon when moving from room to room does not behave consistently. Sometimes you can just single click to move to the other room. Other times you have to double click. And sometimes double click on a specific hotspot only works (while the icon is also shown at other positions).
- When moving from room to room the main sprite is shown for 1 frame in the old position. Also sometimes a strange animation is shown (f.e. entering the living room).
- Using the "use" icon is also not consistent. Sometimes you first walk to the object before using it. Otherwise you can interact with an object from the other side of the room. Looks strange when doors/cabinets are opened from far away...

I know how much work goes into making something like this, so you deserve all the praise!!

Yes, many of the things are 'rushed' due to the strict deadline. We were cutting everywhere in the very last days/hours/minutes.
We didnt even get to use all the gfx veto made while we cut short on others not to omit them completely.
The Bottleneck was ... suprise... time :)
But then again, without the compo this would not where it stands today.
The engine itself is pretty robust and I managed not to fully ruin it with ugly fixes in the end (I hope).
Its mostly the scripting that lacks as it takes by far the most time in the end. That was the actual bottleneck which is good in my book. Scripting is fun. Its also where all the bugs and typos come from. Lots of text in short time with the 'genius' idea to support german and english at the same time \o/ Most written around midnight +/- 4 hours.
So please have mercy with us. We take some rest, collect bug reports (to c64@enthusi.de please :) and silently prepare a smoother version 1.1.
This is the compo version which is also a bit on the 'easy' side with regard to riddles.
In the meantime, enjoy :)

The use of multi/singlecolor charmode in the backgrounds is excellent, and even more so for retaining consistent high quality and the same kind of shading throughout the screens. Can easily imagine the backgrounds be the bottleneck for producing more content, but don't think there's an easy way around.

Niiice :)

I can't use just any item/object combination?

Typo with the sewer grating "Das kommme ich nicht weiter so", cellar "Ich muss mich erst identifiziern", "Dann dass Wasser analysieren"
Examine icon lights up on science recipient, but can't actually examine.
No exit cursor on stair exits and ladder.

It's pretty obvious that a lot of hotspots, texts, etc. were rushed to meet the deadline, take your time for the complete game!

This is great!!

>> Please report bugs you find.

Even if the Atari cartridge was already taken from the cupboard, the cursor still changes on the now empty spot and tells you about the cartridge.

Great work, I was looking forward to it. Amazing graphics and easy to play. Only one thing, couldn't switch language with F5, it works only with F3 for me.

Fortunately it works without the boot file and the KERNAL load is functional, but is it possible to not hard-code device #8 in the next version?
