@Motion: The font - Belwe - is an Art Nouveau typeface originally designed in 1926 by Georg Belwe for Schelter & Giesecke. The characters have serifs that vary in angle and style throughout the alphabet. The nice thing about this is that it didn't exist as digital typeface prior to ACE II's release in 1988.

The first instance of the commercial digital font was made in 1989 by Bitstream. The 2X2 was probably pixeled from a printed typeface example or a Letraset-page.

The font from ACE 2, is actually based on a commercial typeface from the print industry. Can't recall the name, but you can see an example of it here:

The typeface illusion is really impressive and confuses the eye. Nice production guys!
