This is still one of my absolute favourite C64 pics. Amazing stuff.
It's currently marked as "MultiColor" but I've noticed that most like this on CSDb are tagged as "MultiColour + Sprites", whether the sprites are overlays or border sprites .. so assume this should too? The entry is locked though :-( | User Comment Submitted by mankeli on 14 October 2023
this is so well done and cute that i can't handle it!!! | User Comment Submitted by rodney/arise on 8 August 2022 User Comment Submitted by katon on 3 February 2020 User Comment Submitted by prowler on 2 February 2020
One of Mermaids best arrangements - LOVE it! 10/10 | User Comment Submitted by Magic on 31 January 2020
Uber C64 quality
Kind of a comic look and feel.. | User Comment Submitted by Mirage on 31 January 2020
And yes, the eyes are green :) | User Comment Submitted by Mirage on 31 January 2020
Made me giggle, and perfect execution as always. 10. | User Comment Submitted by Oswald on 23 January 2020
@Jammer, "doesnt go apeshit on dithering" != no significant amount of dithering | User Comment Submitted by Jammer on 23 January 2020
@Oswald: There is significant amount of dither but it's subtle and used mostly in colours of same luma :)
@Golara: You've finally cracked me xD
@ZeSmasher: Actually, both Mermaid and Mirage achieve new shades in very similar manner ;) | User Comment Submitted by Oswald on 23 January 2020
its give or take, compared to Mirage Mermaid doesnt go apeshit on dithering, but for that you get antialias that this feels higher res than 160x200 | User Comment Submitted by Golara on 23 January 2020
Jammer just gives extra points to anything with open top and bottom border :P | User Comment Submitted by Smasher on 23 January 2020
@Jammer: really hard to say. both pics are amazing. ex-equo for me.
Mirage's PRO: his usage of colors is out of this world. Mermaid's PRO: she drawns her own characters, not existing ones (Calvin&Hobbes). | User Comment Submitted by Jammer on 23 January 2020
Tough choice between Mirage and Mermaid but IMHO Mermaid wins because of screen composition ;) | User Comment Submitted by Bob on 21 January 2020
This is absolutely brilliant both in artistic values and humor... 10/10 from me | User Comment Submitted by DAM on 5 January 2020

What Frantic said. Fantastic! | User Comment Submitted by Frantic on 2 January 2020
The use of colors stands out here. One almost forgets that this is done using the limitation of the standard C64 palette. | User Comment Submitted by Magic on 2 January 2020
I love Mermaid's unique style | User Comment Submitted by Ksubi on 1 January 2020

Dat multicolour? Insanelicious. | User Comment Submitted by Carrion on 1 January 2020
This is the best image I've seen on C64 for years.
Thank you Mermaid for doing this! I feel privileged to be part of the C64 demoscene familly when things like this are being released. | User Comment Submitted by Jammer on 1 January 2020
Open border magic is back! <3 | User Comment Submitted by morphfrog on 1 January 2020 User Comment Submitted by Dr.j on 1 January 2020
Magic upon here! *WOW!* welcome back Mermaid!! | User Comment Submitted by Scarzix on 1 January 2020
Lovely work, amazing how your pictures often looks like you have more than 16 colors available. Both fun and great composition. If you added a title on top, you have the perfect splash/title picture for an adventure game. 馃槏 | User Comment Submitted by Zierliches Püppchen on 1 January 2020
Back on Track ... cool. As always, brilliant mix of colors. | User Comment Submitted by FABS on 1 January 2020
WOW that's absolutely an amazing one!!! | User Comment Submitted by Motion on 1 January 2020
A great start to the year. Stunning pixel magnificence! | User Comment Submitted by aNdy on 1 January 2020 User Comment Submitted by CeriX on 1 January 2020
Too many colours error... :P
I love how also @mrsid s iPad app smoothly blends the striped areas, which cannot be seen in the preview pic!
2020 seems already to be the Year of the Mermaid! ;) | User Comment Submitted by hedning on 1 January 2020 User Comment Submitted by Oswald on 1 January 2020

Regular multicolour bitmap with some sprite shenanigans in the upper/lower border.
Should work on NTSC as well as PAL.
