An audience with Karen Davies

Former c64 artist Karen Davies has agreed to an informal Q&A session with me.

so are there any questions for her which the artists (or whoever) would like me to put to her?

I have no clue who Karen Davies is. Any examples of her(?) work?

Jailbird: Karen Davies did gfx for many games in the 80ies. Think she is most well known for loading screens in games like Short Circuit, Batman Caped Crusader or Firefly. She also created some excellent charmode based game bg and animations.

Hysteria always impressed me, both graphically and audio wise. Too bad the game didn’t match either of those, being a little on the tough side.

STE'86:

She's a fine artist no doubt about that:

Ask her on the general approach to those days digital art and if or what she might think of the general digital artwork (not only c64) made today. The media specificity and the crafts and perhaps how one thinks in generating computer images, whereas the analogue thinking comes in mind or if one generally approaches problems differently.

Would be great to have some more viewpoints on the dilemma, part from the writings of the Finnish Architect Juhani Pallasmaa.

it would be interesting to hear wether she actually felt like being an artist (in the true sense of the word) or if it was mostly just craft and work. (imho "art" and "artist" are very overused when it comes to pixelstuff, even more so when it comes to game stuff from 20 years ago)

Ah, great! She's indeed very talented. I'm fucking clueless when it comes to games. Am I late?

Ask her if she has seen today's C64 graphics (in case not, which is most probable, show a few nice pieces to her), and what does she think about the progress on this field.
