Just went through the logos from top to bottom again and I'm still amazed what a great quality this competition offers even in the lower ranks (30+, 40+). Thank you guys'n gals for your efforts. And the outside-compo-releases aswell, great stuff <3 |

Thanks for organizing this great compo! |

@Soci: at least you clearly admit the order of your final ranking is debatable. In fact, to my eyes there are a couple of entries that surely didn't deserve to be in the top 10 at all! While several others should have been (and let me be clear I am not referring to my rel but to other works). That said, it was fun. |

Soci great competition and great fun, lots of amazing works on my part, congratulations to all participants, I will definitely join the competition next year :-) |

At some point on the weekend I'll take a snapshot. But until that it's fine to add votes. There's still one entry which doesn't have enough votes yet. |
User Comment Submitted by Smasher on 3 August 2022
deadline for voting? or is it closed already? |
User Comment Submitted by soci on 30 July 2022
Tomorrow is the last day to submit entries (31th July). Results will be calculated next weekend. Hopefully by then all recently submitted entries will collect enough votes. |
User Comment Submitted by DeeKay on 10 July 2022
@soci: Rasterbars again: I don't understand the "won't be reproduced in the results" part. What do you mean by 'results'? Is it okay to upload a non rasterbar screenshot and have the PRG with rasterbars? Or should I add two PRGs, one with and one without? |
User Comment Submitted by soci on 9 July 2022
Possibly. That was already the 2nd one and there are several others with various border colours. It'll still look ok with black border. |
User Comment Submitted by Wile Coyote on 7 July 2022
@soci
Sounds like you just bent the rules.
If someone view's 20+ logo's with black borders, and one entry has a non black border with color raster bars, then it will without doubt have influence on votes. |
User Comment Submitted by soci on 7 July 2022
@Carrion: You can use rasters if it's really needed but the border colours won't be reproduced in the results. |
User Comment Submitted by Wile Coyote on 7 July 2022
@Carrion
The rules imply that any entry featuring a border that shows anything other black, will be disqualified.
Maybe you should release two versions of your logo. One version for the compo with a black border, and one with color raster bars (outside of compo). |
User Comment Submitted by Carrion on 7 July 2022
That's more or less clear, but will my picture be disqualified when I submit with border rasterbars? that's what's unclear. |
User Comment Submitted by Wile Coyote on 7 July 2022
@Carrion
'Border is restricted to black only. So if it's something else it must be treated as black still. Now if this makes your composition look bad then bad luck.'
I would assume your border rasters would need to be set to black for the compo. |
User Comment Submitted by Carrion on 7 July 2022
I think that rules are a bit confusing so I thought I ask.
Are raster colors on sideborders allowed?
I plan to use them as they nicely expand my composition and this is how I plan so submit the image. the pic can be used later downgraded without the rasterbars ofcoz. |

Can it be a fantasy logo ? not in the scene |
User Comment Submitted by Hammerfist on 30 June 2022
@soci: Thank you for clearing everything up!
I rather like the idea of making logos for others. Nice change of pace for some, I expect :)
@Smasher: Yeah, pretty much the only 2 rules we really needed, lol. |
User Comment Submitted by soci on 28 June 2022
Ok, so clarification in for @WileCoyote and everyone:
To enter no prior experience, relevant license or logo graphician association membership required ;)
1 group and/or 1 handle logo. So no more than 2 entries per person.
Own group or own handle is not allowed. TheRyk is right as I made a grammatical mistake there and that's not what I originally planned. But that's how it is written. Next time it'll be proof read by language experts and layers ;)
Old logos used as a minor part of other productions like intros or demos may be entered but must mention where they were used before. This made more sense with the original shorter deadline. I'm sure there's enough time now to create something new.
Of course logos are not restricted to display only the letters. There may be additional graphical elements as long as they don't steal the show. By looking at the whole it should be obvious that the composition serves as a promotion for a particular group/handle and that's spelled out prominently.
Please don't try your luck on figuring out where the boundary may lay. It's subjective and you'll be disappointed.
Logos don't have to be character mode based. However if they are then all characters must be either hires or multicolour. Mixed multicolour and hires use is not allowed (see below why). ECM is fine and counts as hires.
For character based logos PETSCII is encouraged as the use of custom character sets don't provide advantage over plain bitmap mode now that mode mixing is disallowed. If the use of character mode presented an extra challenge and it's not obvious at first sight then please mention it.
Background can be of any colour. Border is restricted to black only. So if it's something else it must be treated as black still. Now if this makes your composition look bad then bad luck.
No tricks like mixed hires/multicolour characters, rasters, sprites, animation, scrolling and whatnot.
The technical restrictions are not arbitrary and do serve a purpose. I plan a results collection for the compo and releases must look the same as when they were competing. That's where the plain black border and the use of uniform hires or multicolour mode restrictions comes from. |

oh c'mon... no need to get lost in translation.
rules are veeeeery easy: 1) paint a logo 2) Facet will win anyway |
User Comment Submitted by TheRyk on 27 June 2022
to make it even more crystal clear
"must not" = forbidden
"need not" = your choice |
User Comment Submitted by TheRyk on 27 June 2022
As it was questioned in Excessively Sweating Monks I think it's helpful to point out if any rule is unclear due to being lost in translation.
Quote:One entry of group or handle logo. Neither of them must be your own, but
it must be your own work. No more than 2 entries per person.
In English "must not" is normally "may not". Or did you want to put it "need not"? |
User Comment Submitted by Digger on 27 June 2022
Thx for extending the deadline Soci. I will try to make another logo that's not resembling Elysium ;-) |

‘Finally a compo where logo graphicians can show off their skills ;)’
Does this mean picture graphicans are not allowed to compete? ;P
‘One entry of group or handle logo. Neither of them must be your own’
If someone wanted to enter two entries, one would have to be a Group logo and the other a Handle logo
(but not their own handle or any groups they are a member of)
‘If your personal best was released in a production years ago and you're
low on motivation and time then it's possible to enter that anyway. In this
case please note where it was used for informed voting.’
Released logo’s can be entered into the compo?
One more question: I assume there is no limit of 256 chars in place, based on what I have seen of some of the entries. |
User Comment Submitted by Hammerfist on 18 June 2022
Hi Soci,
This is a cool compo and I hope I can enter something.
Can you clarify the rules for me though, I am unsure about this part:
Am I allowed to enter 2 logos total, and these logos need to be a group name or a handle, and neither can be my own, so in my case Hammerfist and Desire?
Edit: oh, and I am curious: does this just need to be letters, or can we add stuff? For example, Facet made this amazing Acrouzet logo, and then did it again but added background and foreground images, like the version with the masked girl face in front. Would something like that be allowed or be too much for just a logo?
Thanks! |
User Comment Submitted by Smasher on 17 June 2022
what? hey, I wanted to win!
j/k :) |
User Comment Submitted by soci on 17 June 2022
Thanks everyone! You're right, that's a bit of a tight deadline and to make that work it should have been announced a month ago (when the idea came). So I'm fine with changing the deadline to 31st July for once. |
User Comment Submitted by katon on 16 June 2022
@poison and soci this is what I think about if this is how I enter the game, you have graphics on 01/07/2022 ;-) |
User Comment Submitted by Carrion on 16 June 2022
Pls extend the compo deadline to 31 of July. TIA |
User Comment Submitted by Digger on 16 June 2022
Perhaps extend the deadline already? Only one entry and it’s halftime.
My fav compo btw! |

Finally a compo where logo graphicians can show off their skills ;)
Graphics mode of choice are plain multicolour, hires or petscii with
black border. Must be static and fit on a single screen, no sprites or
other tricks.
One entry of group or handle logo. Neither of them must be your own, but
it must be your own work. No more than 2 entries per person. Must be
executable.
If your personal best was released in a production years ago and you're
low on motivation and time then it's possible to enter that anyway. In this
case please note where it was used for informed voting.
Deadline is 1st of July. Voting is on CSDB, highest rating wins. No
prices, think of it as an up-to-date chart for this discipline. |
