wow, this totally passed me by. It's great!
Love the leads, and shifts of bass line and drums. | User Comment Submitted by F7sus4 on 21 April 2013
One of my all-time favorites, Owen. It skillfully utilizes positive energy, not being maktonishly "stupid-happy" at the same time. One of these rare tunes where I wouldn't change a single note. Perfect! .-)
(A word of profane: sounds better with 6581R4 for me - the bassline is too crisp with 8580 and overlaps the rest of the arrangement while seriously lacking low frequencies). | User Comment Submitted by Soren on 9 September 2012
A lovely tune, Owen! Catchy and melodic. | User Comment Submitted by PAL on 3 August 2010
been listening to it for hours now... it grows and it has different moods and elements that do it great! | User Comment Submitted by PAL on 3 August 2010
It sure is fine, and what a demotune it is... action and parts and stops and changes and all... very exciting tune it is... | User Comment Submitted by Flex on 3 August 2010
Fabulous tune!! Great lead & sounds overall. 10 points! | User Comment Submitted by Motion on 26 September 2009
@Archmage: ...I second that, it's quite a remarkable tune. If you demoed this to someone and told them it came from a 25 year old machine (unless you take account of the 8550), they'd probably loose their mind! | User Comment Submitted by Archmage on 5 June 2009
Gave this another listen just now. Wow, what a tune. | User Comment Submitted by tempest on 13 January 2009
Conrad: my comment about praise and perspective was meant in general. I wasn't implying you make sid music to get praise or high ranking in compos. I'm not that much of a deluded asshole :) and also I have no problems with the last compo results (or compo results in general anymore.) your tune was obviously one of the best. keep up the good work. | User Comment Submitted by Conrad on 13 January 2009
Quote:I'm not saying it's a bad tune. but praise hardly ever gives you any new perspective to what you're doing.
tempest, all tunes I make isn't supposed to be for the praise. I make them because I enjoy making SID music in my spare time and no more!
edit: just to also add, the only reason I came to this scene is just to prove that there are still young people out there who like the old breadbox, whether they are talented or retarded. how would you guys feel if there would never be any more generations using c64? THAT is when the c64 scene will die.
Sure my style may be a bit or even extreme overkill for some people including yourself, but that all depends on what you're brought up on. For me I was brought up around high-energy tunes similar to the style I mainly stick to. Maybe I do push too far with my work and shove too much detail into 3 voices, but really I like to experiment with this... just like many have over the years.
and to be perfectly honest with you... I hate myself when I always get ranked somewhere at the top, especially for music compos at demoparties. For example, that tune I made for Silesia 2.0, I wasn't expecting to be 1st for two reasons, 1. I wasn't at that party due to not being polish, and 2. I knew for a fact that many other great musicians would be there and do a far better job than I do (me being the sorry-ass rookie musician from the most hated country ever :)) But it seems that didn't turn out to be true after the results, which kinda puzzled me.
anyway, thanx for the critisim! :) No hearts broken. | User Comment Submitted by Frantic on 13 January 2009
I will never understand the "mainstream c64 music opinion" at all. :)
This is not for me in any way. Sorry. :) | User Comment Submitted by tempest on 13 January 2009
ok, after all those praises I'll balance the situation a bit. the song sounds too stuffed, with lots of unnecessary octave jumps in the bassline (not really lines, more like lumps of notes), but I guess it's a stylistic trait. also the ending is a bore. the part starting around 1 minute is a breath of fresh air.
the leads are realized skillfully, although I think there's too much going on in there also. again, perhaps it comes with the style.
EDIT: I'm not saying it's a bad tune. but praise hardly ever gives you any new perspective to what you're doing. | User Comment Submitted by nada on 15 December 2008
uhh.. very seductively parts... ;) !!!! | User Comment Submitted by Stainless Steel on 12 December 2008 User Comment Submitted by Jammer on 12 December 2008
who has downvoted this to shameful 8.8?! :P | User Comment Submitted by Radiant on 12 December 2008
For some reason I first thought "Dane", then the lead kicked in and I realized it had to be Conrad. Very skillfully executed, with absolutely lovely instruments, but I'm not too fond of the style (early 90's Amiga demo music?). Well done anyway.
9/10 | User Comment Submitted by DRAX on 11 December 2008
Definately my favorite ;) ... Musically and melodically interesting! | User Comment Submitted by Motion on 11 December 2008
...and I'll pay for a bag of peanuts! ;D
| User Comment Submitted by psych on 11 December 2008
Owen, this tune is just awesome! If the first pint is on You I'm going to buy another 10 :) | User Comment Submitted by Archmage on 11 December 2008
My numero uno. The sense of melody and the good craftmanship is very audiable here. Also, for lack of better words I find this one so very... balanced. It has been playing for hours already, but I suspect it will stand a lot more repeats. Kudos. | User Comment Submitted by chatGPZ on 11 December 2008
my personal #1 in the compo by far :) i am practicing the lead on guitar already :=) | User Comment Submitted by CreaMD on 9 December 2008
Hmmmm.... now I don't know what's wrong with me, but I hear a lot of motives (weeell.. ok, some.., maybe one, or two ;-) going around tunes from previous compos (and also even metal warrior #1 the start screen - theme). Maybe it's too late in the nite and I hear more than there actually is.. ;-) As Dane said. Very entertaining and cleverly crafted. | User Comment Submitted by DRAX on 4 December 2008
Nice lead work ;) I like the shift from around 1:00... Really nice ;) | User Comment Submitted by Twoflower on 1 December 2008
My #2 in the compo. Very nice tune, takes a firm grip of me and shakes me around a little. | User Comment Submitted by Dane on 1 December 2008
Very entertaining and well crafted! | User Comment Submitted by Burglar on 29 November 2008
this is one awesome sid! my winner so far
edit: and motion, I think the composer's handle starts with a c.. but must admit I was wrong earlier | User Comment Submitted by Motion on 28 November 2008
Ooh! I wonder who this is? Ha Ha! I know this style any day! ;D
