This is SO fitting to Censor - BRILLIANT!! | User Comment Submitted by TheRyk on 13 March 2013
@Prowler: Great you found a way of making this a "legal" entry without loss of quality worth mentioning - as I expected.
@DK/USER: Thx 4 expaining. | User Comment Submitted by prowler on 13 March 2013
I made a 255-chars compo version and uploaded it here: Ice Metal - Still Shining
After talking to the compo-organizer, we decided that the best solution would be a new entry to separate the pictures.
Your votes will not be transferred, so if you want, vote again! :-) | User Comment Submitted by Flex on 13 March 2013
Hi, I'm commenting this from 300baud (!?) :-) connection via my friends cellular after getting the kids asleep and 4 hours of good old football time (Barca-Milan).. I just love to see this kind of quality stuff, don't know what's the story behind it for votes less than 10..
Now let me get more stoned and more in trouble with my wife-to-become next morning.. :-D
| User Comment Submitted by PAL on 12 March 2013
i tested too and it were so easy to get it down... but you know what? Your talent surpasses me... you shoud do it yourself! Because that will put even more spike to it! | User Comment Submitted by STE'86 on 12 March 2013
right i have it down to 256 exactly using the competition checker :) what do i win?
| User Comment Submitted by user on 12 March 2013
@Ryk unfortunately none of my attempts are so complex like Algorithms stuff. I only calculated the distance list of every combination of two tiles (4x8) with the build in algorithm from .NET and even then i kicked them manually. But this feature isn't implemented into the public version. Because it is not losless. You get Artifacts. Algorithm found a way to make them appear on less important places, i.E. not in the middle of the face. This is far away from my lame coding skills :( | User Comment Submitted by algorithm on 12 March 2013
So many methods of reducing chars. Csamv6 has a nice genetic mutation approach for chosing optimum chars. | User Comment Submitted by DeeKay on 12 March 2013
Ryk: Yes, any. Ofcourse, the more screens you add and the more complex the screens are, the more blocky it gets! ;-) elbg simply reduces chars until it's down to 256 (I think that's what's called a "codebook" in coder terms).. and that's not even the limit, strictly speaking you could describe any number of pictures with just 2 chars already: one filled char and one unfilled one. It would look like zoom mode, but it still is the picture! ;-D | User Comment Submitted by Motion on 12 March 2013
nice pcb pattern background and nice logo! | User Comment Submitted by Hein on 12 March 2013
Nice. Timanthes sais 300 chars when I move it around a bit. 290 when I add and remove a few pixels. 256 if you try Timanthes. :) | User Comment Submitted by Didi on 12 March 2013
Good idea. Keep this version outside the compo and add a new valid entry. | User Comment Submitted by bepp on 12 March 2013
Prowler: If you manage to fix the logo, please keep the original logo as a separate entry. This piece of art must be preserved! | User Comment Submitted by TheRyk on 12 March 2013
@DK: I'd have guessed YES, since USER studied Algotech's stuff at least to some degree before coding.
But - ANY? is that really possible? New to me.
M2C was just a suggestion, I'm aware there might be other good or even superior tools.
PS: If it's possible to reduce it to 256 without background, I'd still say, it's a top 3 fav. | User Comment Submitted by DeeKay on 12 March 2013
Amazing logo, if he manages to get that down to 256, this is my fave!
Speaking of which: this char converter everybody's using, is it intelligent like Bitbreaker's and Algotech's converters? They use some elbg algorithm that converts *any* number of screens with *any* content down to one charset. It just reduces all different characters down to the 256 most useful. Might be really useful to have a nice GUI tool that does that job (preferrably with either a warning when it does "lossy conversion" or a checkbox you need to activate before it does! | User Comment Submitted by Digger on 12 March 2013
312 chars as it is. There's a lot of room for optimization, i.e. letters C, N and S have common top right corner... | User Comment Submitted by TheRyk on 12 March 2013
Yeah, you got it, there may not be more than 256 different(!) MC tiles convertible to 256 chars.
About "later" fixing: Other participants fixed their entries too in this competition (or the music compo before), so I see no reason why you shouldn't be allowed to do that. Compomaster Didi ain't that strict usually.
Maybe this one helps you Multicolor2Char V0.1 | User Comment Submitted by prowler on 12 March 2013
Big thanks for the nice comments!! :-)
I'm bit of a c64 n00b, and didn't grasp the full meaning of "max 256 different chars", but I guess it's the amount of "used" 4x8 koala pixel squares, right?
I can fix this and replace the logo, hopefully that would still be OK with the compo. | User Comment Submitted by Ksubi on 12 March 2013
Amazing logo, just perfect! | User Comment Submitted by Sledge on 12 March 2013 User Comment Submitted by Zierliches Püppchen on 12 March 2013
Think too it will be possible to change/arange the background in a way it looks that good too ... | User Comment Submitted by TheRyk on 12 March 2013
Perfect apart from the too many chars problem. I also keep my fingers crossed for reducing this to compo restriction without loss of quality. I'm almost sure, you find a way, e.g. background... | User Comment Submitted by chancer on 12 March 2013
easily in my top 3.. hopefully you can re-edit it to take slightly less chars :) . I can really see it with sprite anim's/ colour changes ,on the background tracks :) . | User Comment Submitted by STE'86 on 12 March 2013
oh come off it!, sure it looks nice but there has been absolutely ZERO attempt to make that conform to characters. It doesnt even look like it was drawn with a grid on ow it might have been noticed that there are about 50+ squares on there that could have been made to conform with the small addition/subtraction of a line of pixels. moving the "design" up/down 4 pixels for instance would halve its character cost in one step. | User Comment Submitted by Yogibear on 12 March 2013 User Comment Submitted by psych on 12 March 2013 User Comment Submitted by Joe on 12 March 2013 User Comment Submitted by spider-j on 12 March 2013
Oh noes! That is always a let off to the WOW effect :( Same happened to the Desire logo. Better check chars before submitting, so you don't 'spoiler' your own releases.
Still - even as normal multicolorpic: a great logo! :-) | User Comment Submitted by celticdesign on 12 March 2013
awesome tron style!!! love it!!! | User Comment Submitted by Zierliches Püppchen on 12 March 2013
Please post the Koala file too ... | User Comment Submitted by Cruzer on 12 March 2013
Made a loop that tried all 32 possible displacements, 296 chars was the best result. | User Comment Submitted by v3to on 12 March 2013
pro motion sais 318 chars, slightly moved to the grid it got reduced to 303 chars.
actually i am sure it is possible to get this into one charset with modified dimensions of the letters and few changes in the background | User Comment Submitted by Zierliches Püppchen on 12 March 2013
If the Char-set does not fit !!FIX-IT!! | User Comment Submitted by Zierliches Püppchen on 12 March 2013
Who cares personal Ranking ... 10 Points ;-) That one Rocks! Fantastic Logo ... thats real great! | User Comment Submitted by enthusi on 12 March 2013
319 chars I think. somewhat over the top it seems.
Nice koala still but not part of the compo in that state. | User Comment Submitted by user on 12 March 2013
One of the problems that some converters like GangEd have is to set the D8xx color to one of the other 3 colors and produce "garbage" chars, that are invisible in the koala itself, but reduce the available chars in the following conversion. If you have crossdev painted this image try Multicolor2Char V0.1 with the BMP. It can also create an simple viewer for this compo. But you have to remap your colors. Use only 160x200 pixel size images for this tool! | User Comment Submitted by Didi on 12 March 2013 User Comment Submitted by Magnar on 12 March 2013
I also think there are a few different tools to convert from koala to charset. And some are more efficient than others depending on the graphic to convert.
You should try different tools.
I don't remember any of them by name, but maybe someone can help make a list of the available convert tools for download from csdb? :) | User Comment Submitted by Magnar on 12 March 2013
I think if you take away the "Design" and move the grey bars going down a bit up to fit the vertical size of a new version of the logo, then you would get it into 256 chars. | User Comment Submitted by Archmage on 12 March 2013
Potentially the winner if you manage to get it down to 256 chars. You go, boy! ;) | User Comment Submitted by Kristian on 12 March 2013 User Comment Submitted by PAL on 12 March 2013
ohhh.... then he needs to do the work I did on my scoop and offence logos... hmmm | User Comment Submitted by The Gothicman on 12 March 2013 User Comment Submitted by Didi on 12 March 2013
Unfortunately too many different chars. 318 if I counted correctly. :(
Please reedit or I have to move it outside the compo, sorry.
