@The Syndrom: Thanks for adding the mockup!
@The Sarge: great conceptual work! | User Comment Submitted by Dr.Science on 12 August 2023
This demo is pure love! For the scene and ofcourse for the sceners :-) Impressing how the story and code have melted together, it was a great idea to join forces, BONZAI & PRETZELS! Congratulations on a stunning demo which leaves me with a fluffy feeling inside every time I watch it! | User Comment Submitted by DKT on 1 July 2023
This is so f*** amazing demo <3 So many great content in it <3 I don't even want to describe every one of fx/screens <3 I just want to make love with all of you guys ;) | User Comment Submitted by Youth on 25 June 2023
My favorite in the compo! This touched my on a deeper level than most demos. It's got great aesthetic and a smooth flowing storyline without any weak bits(!), but it's got such an emotional layer aswell that you managed to convey perfectly without getting melodramatic. It is the most rewatchable demo I know, like a favorite movie that you can watch over and over again. | User Comment Submitted by Jak T Rip on 24 June 2023
Hard to find fitting words. Just brilliant. | User Comment Submitted by Magic on 23 June 2023
This demo is growing on me :)
Personally and honoustly this demo has to less ass kicking effects for my taste
and is to much gfx driven..
I liked best these totally amazing things:
Intro part
Sound beginning side 3
Welcome to machine scroller + sound
In general whole side 4!
A good story seems to be mandatory now..
and boy this demo has one for sure!
All in all some great Momance and Brojo ehm Mojo going here!! And a great surprise cooperation.. Keep on it! Demo is life! =) Greetz and respect! | User Comment Submitted by SMC on 21 June 2023
Wow @Bob! Thanks for that comment! <3 | User Comment Submitted by Walt on 19 June 2023 User Comment Submitted by Trap on 19 June 2023
I am out of words to be honest. People who know me, will tell you that does not happen often :)
Thank you all for your wonderful comments, but an extra big hug to my brother in the scene, Bob. Just the fact that you took the time to sit down and write this whole thing is almost reward enough for me.
The Sarge was the one who came up with the idea for this demo and it cost a lot of blood, sweat and frustration for everybody to get this finished. However, even though there were times when some of us were very close to a breaking point, we managed to step up for each other and provide the support and help we all needed to keep the entire team together. Nobody was left behind and trust me - we really had our struggles to finish this. Everybody in Pretzel and Bonzai gave a pound of flesh for this one. I loved working with the Pretzels on this one - such a great group of people whom I all consider my friends now.
We talked about it at X, Bob. We want to make an Edge of Disgrace killer demo, but it turns out you and us have to go to the next next level instead. Is it even possible? | User Comment Submitted by Honcho on 19 June 2023

(the message rap - ish)
Sitting there in the front row, watching all the demos go,
Mojo makes me wonder how you made such a show in short time!,
Bonzai Demos at every party and every where,
People are awed by the story tale!
Don't push the Commie
Cause it’s close to the edge
I'm tryin' not to loose my head!
It's like a jungle sometimes so many releases makes me wonder how you keep from going under?
You have edged a new category for the Demo scene! and pushed it to a new level
thanx for doing that its now much harder to push the Commie
Cause it’s close to the edge
I'm tryin' not to pop my head!
it isn't obvious what direction is the way to go
It's like a jungle sometimes
It makes me wonder
How I keep from going under!
people are arguing about demos
precalc
animation
realtime
old school
new school
code pr0n
story based
story tell
the list is growing every day!
It's like a jungle sometimes
It makes me realise its the DIVERSITY that makes the demo scene from going under!
hu hu hu
Since your comeback you have achieved to add new diversity to the scene to an extend that everyone has level up and pushed the Commie to the Next Level ;)
You guys are awesome!, pure inspiration!
Pure entertainment now we need to hire a movie director from Hollywood :P

If you're good enough you can crash the game ... I didn't have enough time to really finish it - so if you get beyond level 8 (do the math) it start to go south really fast :D | User Comment Submitted by PARALAX on 12 June 2023
Technically one of the best demos available for the C64. Well done! It can also be watched as part in our livestream at 00:37:22 which also include a "Best of X2023 Demoparty" special part. :-)

Love it. Many great parts and those large scrolling pics are superbly done. It feels like one of those classic demos with a message, with the code turned up to 11. | User Comment Submitted by Burglar on 9 June 2023 User Comment Submitted by Hani on 8 June 2023
LOVE it, I was really moved by this <3 I think it was wonderfully built and whole and something different. | User Comment Submitted by Morpheus on 7 June 2023
This was one of two demos in the demo compo at X2023 that got a 10 from me. And for good reasons too. The story is by The Sarge and it mirrors his thoughts about life and the scene pretty damn well! I think it's worth noting that it's super hard to keep the whole team on the same path when doing a story-based demo like this. I know. We failed at doing so in Censor, so super congrats to BZPL for this massive feat!
The imagery and music speaks to me on so many levels. The combo of the C64 and hard rock music was my 80's, and in fact it still is! Small details like the Extra Large logo and the green tentacle lamp is right up my alley. The balance between sad and happy is perfect. The rain scenes handled this perfectly.
The only thing I didn't think was clear enough in the story was that the two new-found friends started to do demos together, which of course explains the tech parts that I thought didn't follow the story there at the end. Having said that, guys, you did a bloody amazing demo! I'm proud of ya and I love ya. Hope to see more soon-ish. Rest and enjoy the love that people throwing at you for a job well done. | User Comment Submitted by icon on 7 June 2023
Love this in every aspect! 10/10. | User Comment Submitted by Oswald on 7 June 2023
guess this is the winner for me, eventhough performers seem to have more technical qualities and my hardcore coder heart should prefer that one. one of the best story telling / designs ever, and of course hardcore effects too. mid life crisis demos wtf :D | User Comment Submitted by Pantaloon on 6 June 2023 User Comment Submitted by NecroPolo on 6 June 2023
Amazing demo, full of killer moments. A new benchmark in storytelling on C64 I think. I loved this.
As for concept/message depth, this won it for me. It really made me wonder of what the fuck am I doing considering biorobotic life and stuff, and if it is good for me really or not. | User Comment Submitted by Mr. Spock on 6 June 2023
I watched this demo a few hours ago and am still impressed.
Mojo consists of many individual parts, great graphics, fascinating code, music that always perfectly fits the mood and great sound effects. But the sum of everything is far greater than the individual parts. The sum is a fantastic piece of work full of design and storytelling. For me, Mojo is a milestone, a new gold standard against which future demos will bei compared against.
Thank you for making this possible! | User Comment Submitted by Copyfault on 6 June 2023
Seeing that Bonzai and the Pretzels joined forces for a demo made me a bit (a tiny bit) sad because this implicitly meant one demo less...
The whole creation more than compensates for that! This is maybe the perfect realisation of a movie that is composed of c64-elements. No idea how to better describe it.
Ending the whole show with the turning mojo-vinyl was extra nice.
Thank you for this creation, BZPL! | User Comment Submitted by Mibri on 6 June 2023
This one nearly (NEARLY!) had my eyes' waterworks going - quite an emotional roller coaster! A wonderful production that I'll return to again and again. <3 | User Comment Submitted by Thunder.Bird on 6 June 2023
has a perfect fitting story line - everyone should think their lives over after watching this. come on, we kept beeing little kids after all. | User Comment Submitted by Machine on 5 June 2023
I almost fell off my chair! What a tour de force, just awesome! Feel like back then... Thank you for this. | User Comment Submitted by Twoflower on 5 June 2023
I got to admire the great effort that went into this demo. This isn't a nicely weapped, code-heavy production from BZ nor the elegant, subtle show of the Pretzels. This is both an amalgamation of the styles and at the same time something completely different. Kudos for daring to do something special, guys. It really paid off. <3 | User Comment Submitted by redback on 5 June 2023

What a fantastic storytelling! Demo is nothing but piece of art <3 | User Comment Submitted by Quiss on 5 June 2023
I've always wanted to watch a demo that uses Lucasfilm-adventure-style scenes for storytelling, and this demo fully delivers on that, and on so much more!
Amazing work, guys! | User Comment Submitted by Hate Bush on 5 June 2023
no i won't cut my hair mummy, i also refuse to play with my computer less. and please, don't mention the homework! | User Comment Submitted by VIC on 5 June 2023
The storytelling, the flow, the smoothness, the music, the style, the attention to detail... -and I guess a little coding was also needed to make it work ;) Awesome work by everyone involved - my personal favorite! <3 | User Comment Submitted by Bitbreaker on 5 June 2023
The story of that topic felt very touching and i am aware that it suits so many that are caught in the recursion of work, eat, sleep, repeat. It however also touches the fact, that there's not many people in this world that understand that fascination and dedication for demos and old computers. So it is not much of a topic among the regular circle of friends. The theme also makes me even more thankful for not living in that said recursion. I found that humor in there very well chosen and on spot, sad and yet so funny. | User Comment Submitted by Deev on 5 June 2023
So much I love here! The "acts" all feel so different. Echoing Raistlin a bit, but the intro definitely makes me think of an 80s teen movie (pretty sure that issue of Zzap was the first I ever bought). The way to mood switches to the bleak modern day is very well done, as is the way Commando soundtrack finally ends the isolation. Then into the modern colourful demo effects section before the finale ties beautifully back to where we started. My favourite of the compo, watching it at home on my own, I still wanted to applaud when it was over.
The guitarist on the final disk change part doesn't look like he'd be very good at knitting though. | User Comment Submitted by Yogibear on 5 June 2023
Some great ideas in this! Point and click part is the best! | User Comment Submitted by Clarence on 5 June 2023
Nicely designed, with a well laid out storyline. It felt very cozy watching this. | User Comment Submitted by katon on 4 June 2023
Congratulations to all of you involved in making this fantastic demo! I have no words to express what I feel. Amazing demo! Everything in this production graphics, music, code, idea are simply out of this world, I bow before you. | User Comment Submitted by Dr.j on 4 June 2023

Best demo at X - thank you! | User Comment Submitted by uctumi on 4 June 2023
This was my favorite one among so many great demos at X'2023!
Very polished graphically, musically and conceptually. | User Comment Submitted by Joe on 4 June 2023
Special scenes in this one! | User Comment Submitted by Mixer on 4 June 2023
The first half of the demo has many genious visualizations of concepts, such as the tick tock clock. The message resonates with me. | User Comment Submitted by Wile Coyote on 4 June 2023
Thumbs-up to the up scrolling intro pic.
I was quite taken by The End up-scroller featuring a neat font and Mojo logo.
^_^ | User Comment Submitted by Raistlin on 4 June 2023
Great demo, guys! Quite different to what I'd expect - but that's good for such an intense compo!
The intro somehow reminds me of some 80s movie .. but I can't think what right now.. very The Sarge, I'd say, pushing things further with the bitmap movie thing :-)
The grey-parts are very 1984/Apple style, too.. nicely moody. Reminds me of the Hollowman demos (definitely no bad thing).
The perspective upscroll on side 3 is really nice. Commando music is cool - though I've seen Performers' Concert so much that I wonder if another game tune could've worked better?
Nice circle scroll on side 4, too - it looks like Walt's found a way to smooth the font nicely.
Very nicely polished overall. It's not pushing heavily on the codeporn - but you guys released so much over the covid years that that's understandable! And, yeah, this one's just a different sort of demo.
The demo feels very Performers-like in places... which is why I say it's not what I'd expect - heavily The Sarge influenced, which makes me think "Fairlight", plus Hollowman (Fairlight again) and, yeah, some strong Performers influence too.
One small gripe: although definitely graphics-heavy, I wonder whether it could've fit on less disk sides? Side 2 in particular swaps very fast.
Really really nice demo, particularly the graphics. | User Comment Submitted by Skate on 4 June 2023
As a c64 coder metalhead who stuck in the 80s, this demo reflects my feelings perfectly! There are many technical parts as well. Gfx&msx work, sync, linking, coding... Looks like you've invested a lot of time on it. Thank you for releasing such a nostalgic demo. |
