C64 Divine Love

Just what the hell is it exactly that forces me to burn the midnight lamp on c64 related activities scores of years after the 'downfall' of that computer. In my heart I know and there are no doubts. The outside world doesn't understand. They fail to grasp. Even I cannot explain it to them. It is of course the scene, for a big part, but even before I joined the scene, I was attracted to it. Lured to it. I tried to get away from it, sold my VIC20 to buy an MSX, only to sell the MSX to get an MSX2 and still I didn't feel right. I sold the MSX2 to buy the C64, as I spent more time on somebody else's C64 than on my own MSX2. At times, I had to cut my bond with the C64 to get passed my exams, or just to attempt to get away from The Bond and sold it, and I took those decisions on my own. Only to buy another one some weeks, or months later. I just couldn't get or stay away. It is insane, right? Here I am 28 years later and I still spent time on that Commodore technology. WTF?!

We love C64 because:

In our accelerating reality, where a new pc is outdated 3 months after you bought it, and where your education is outdated before you complete it - we can go back to something basic, something that works, and of which we have full control, and which he have preserved a child's love for, because of the place in time when we got it.

Things come and go. Yo-yo, rubiks cube, tamagotchi, whatever fashionable toy there has been, and come back from time to time.

C64 endures, because its possible to create stuff with it, and nomatter what level of user you are, beginner, intermediate, or the hardest badass expert: you can still create something new with it.

8 bit sample playback, mp3, animated demo in nufli..

There is still cycles to find the best way to use, the soundchip is not even 50% exploited yet, where the videochip is.

By keeping a connection to something in your life, you have a stable foundation that you can always go back to.

In this modern world, where you change jobs and partner, like you change your shirts, to keep up with the endless race to survive in a too fast to keep track on reality - the C64 is your homebase. Its where you have control, and can count on new experiences in the future, always.

I think we love the c64 because we are nostalgic nerds that just cant grow up and leave childhood.
