C64 Divine Love
Just what the hell is it exactly that forces me to burn the midnight lamp on c64 related activities scores of years after the 'downfall' of that computer. In my heart I know and there are no doubts. The outside world doesn't understand. They fail to grasp. Even I cannot explain it to them. It is of course the scene, for a big part, but even before I joined the scene, I was attracted to it. Lured to it. I tried to get away from it, sold my VIC20 to buy an MSX, only to sell the MSX to get an MSX2 and still I didn't feel right. I sold the MSX2 to buy the C64, as I spent more time on somebody else's C64 than on my own MSX2. At times, I had to cut my bond with the C64 to get passed my exams, or just to attempt to get away from The Bond and sold it, and I took those decisions on my own. Only to buy another one some weeks, or months later. I just couldn't get or stay away. It is insane, right? Here I am 28 years later and I still spent time on that Commodore technology. WTF?! |

Sometimes I wonder why I'm so interested in this old hardware... and then I remember it just doesn't matter, but having fun with it, and using while it still works does.

The 64 Scene is awesome. It always has been. Time cannot change that. People from other scenes have great respect for 64 sceners also. It takes much more skill to operate a 64 than other newer systems. This includes programming, pixeling, composing and cracking. The fellowship dating back to the early 1980s, is still strong today. It is a strong uniting factor. At least one marriage has occurred through 64 scene involvement and many, many great congregations take place frequently. Why do we love the 64 and The Scene built around it? Simple, because it is great. |

actually I think one of the good reasons to learn how the c64 works nowadays is that it is simple enough to learn the basics of electronics and low level programming.
I noticed that many people who are very well trained in the IT field on the high level, have much difficult in understanding for example how an IRQ works.
I use a C64 at my work place on daily basis to simualte the behaviour of a physical sistem (internal combustion engine). Other colleagues of mine use more modern stuff like Nation Instruments PXI controller. They program in LABView, I program in assembler. But I can tell you that the C64 does its job really well. |
