Questions from a complete MMC Reply+RR Net n00b

Yeah, that would be me then.

I get these error messages:

In WarpCopy: No reply from 192.168.1.64:6644. What's wrong?

On the MMC Replay: I press F1 to start filebrowsing. Screen just quickly flashes and I'm still at the main menu.

Can someone please explain what I need to do to get this working. And write like your explaining to a five year old.

OKTHXBYE!

well mine is working fine now

all i did was as follows:-

bought a sd memory card
formatted it like fat32
placed a folder in the root of the card called "SYSTEM64"
placed TFR08.bin in this folder above

then i used f5 which is the flash rom tool

i flashed 0 with the tfr08.bin file which was on the sc card
gave it the name tfr08 + rrnet as tfr08 has codenet and the final replay built in

once that finished i reset the mmc and clicked 0 which then goes to the final replay v0.8 on the c64

i then press f6
and get
ready.
codenet:
rr-net found. cs8900A revision D

i then click send server on warpcopy which is on my laptop and thats it

all works well...

so if you set the correct ip etc i think it would be a good idea to give the heads on your floppy a little clean...reason being is your using an extremely fast copying routine in warcopy to transferr the disk and any dirt on the disk will be picked up easily where as when you do a slow copy it has chance to get around the dirt by reading a few times and then eventually going on

and you know the best way to clean the heads right??

remove the top, get some cotton buds that are used for cleaning ears out....and here is the final top tip courtesy of the transferr team (acidchild, mace, mdz and mason) use spit on the cotton button from your mouth and this cleans the heads very well indeed :)

let me know if you have anymore problems and error codes if any ok

best of luck

maestro

Hey Rod,

First off, great meeting you at X!

Secondly, I get things working 'till "rr-net found. cs8900A revision D", but I can't send server ("Could not send server to C64!"). I checked the heads in the 1541-II and they were reeeeeally dirty, cleaned them but still no success.

Network seems to be working as it should as I get the directory in Warpcopy and I can also still copy a disk in slow-mo. Can the network cables/router be a problem with this information in mind?

yes the cables/router could be at fault but doesnt sound like they are

still seems like either a network problem or maybe the firewall

just a thought instead of using 192.168.1.3 and 192.168.1.64 change the 1 on both ip's to 0 as i do remember i had some problem there when i 1st started

also what OS are you running??

and last but not least it was also very cool to meet you at x2008 also....now im looking forward to x2010 :)

you can also change the netmask to 255.255.0.0 and you can use the 192.168.1.x address from a 192.168.0.x machine.

Hello again,

This is turning out to be a bigger hassle than expected.

I'm on XP. I can't change to 192.168.0.64. There can't be a zero there, I must use 192.168.1.64 or it won't work.

I write "SETIP 192.168.1.64 192.168.1.3" and the ROM file is successfully updated, but when I run IPCONFIG, all I see is:

Ethernet card for local network
IP-address................192.168.1.6

Ehternet card for wireless connection
IP-address................192.168.1.2

Shouldn't it atleast say 192.168.1.3 which is the PC IP I set with SETIP?

OK, so I've been able to copy some disks in fast mode. Thanks for being there with me maestro. :)

But (Of course) the only way I get it to work is if I press the "Format"-button in Warpcopy first without actually formatting the disk. Drive resets, I put disk in, Warpcopy copies the disk, all works well. But when I wanna do the backside, I'm back to the old problem (can copy in slow mode only).

Any ideas?

a few things come to mind but not sure about any of them 100%.

just looking back at the problems i had a long time ago maybe one of these could help

1. i changed my ethernet cable (to a better made one maybe this could be a problem)
2. try downloading another warpcopy just incase the one you downloaded has problems with it
3. the settings i used that worked where as follows:-

ip 192.168.1.64 for warpcopy
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1
dns 192.168.1.1

you could also try changing the speed/duplex settings

There's no use in posting settings that worked.
Gateway and dns depends on your router (usually the router's IP) and it also depends on your router which IP you can use for your C64 (DHCP adress range).

If you want to get RR-Net working properly you have to know a little bit about your network first.
