Jan... I really think they want to earn money on these, and they will not earn money if they cheat all... It is to risky for them to do this on-line and with Barry Altman fronting the company and all... I mean is that any fun? Begging for jail? I think they just think the commodore is a nice brand, maybe they have similarities with us just loving the brand. I spoke to some at NewTek and they are partners with them, how wrong can it be? Man this is insane mail you sent, they must truly think you are not sane... My best guess is that they are in it for the business that they have calculated to be good if they produce cheap machines, in the tradition of the commodore company(commodore always produced cheap but ok machines... Amiga were totally awesome for its time, the c64 were really not that uniqe in a way, but it sure had its pros ;-) ), but can get max out of the label and brands they now own the rights to use.
It is what it is, a blue-ray player with a pc included... You might compare it to a play-station, but with cheap hardware but hardware that will run the commodore OS in a good way and also be able to emulate the old machines... It is not a revolution, it is just something that might be fun for a lot of people, people like me...
I might eat my own words later on but really, really? really? Do they stand the time on the net with large companies as partners and companies with a long history on the commodore label like NewTek on their site? Guess Disney and NewTek and Motorola and so on would have removed that site instantly if it were humbug... or they would put out a press note on that...
In my home town in Arendal there were this animal shop that named themself Pluto, they just got a letter in the mail two days after they had an add in the local newspaper from Disney. They said change the name or we will go to court... Two days after the add, in a local newspaper in my small hometown...
Relax a bit... This is what it is... A hardware with a OS in a box that are real simular to our all time lovable design for a computer... IT IS FUN IT IS LOVE IT IS BUSINESS and it is a part of someones grown-up lives, they think they can earn from this... cool, I want one and I just ordered one... LOVE IT!
PS: a side note might be that we are the strange people that are so afraid of these new things done with our brand... WHY? Just because we love the brand so much and the fact that we are nerds(I am a big nerd on c64... no one I know outside the scene really understand what it is and why I am doing it after all these years again...) still loving the old hardware, nobody else in the world does that to the hights that we do... The scene is a sub culture, something small and very rear! I love the real c64, but still I might have a new one that might bring me fun too... |

I DID IT!!!! I made an interface board for ZX Spectrum in which you can insert SID chip and listen SID-tunes!!!
Some photos of the prototype board:
I only added all the analog circuitry from an original C64 and filter capacitors (not shown on photos). The ICs are analogs of 74ALS series.
Original discussion about the board: http://zx.pk.ru/showthread.php?p=377327#post377327 |

Could not resist comment Bytemans creation.
@Byteman:Why not use a real c64 to play sidfiles on! :)
And the PCB i would refer to in swedish as "skatbo" directly translated something like "birdnest",
Looks real hard to find right pin for soldering. :)

Commodore computers aren't widespread in Russia. Many people have speccy, but only a few have commies ;) I've only tried to make Speccy sound better (sorry for my poor English :(
And about the "quality" of the board... It works, and works good enough. Next step will be a good PCB for this construction. The big "PLUS" is that this construction is DIY. Everybody can make it. |

Breadboxes are too rare :( I have two C64Cs, one C128, and one breadbox board (restored, all ram chips were blown). And no success of finding breadbox case and keyboard :(
C16 is an outstander to all of that ones :) |

What PAL write is probably correct, but it dont change the fact that those 2 TERMS i pointed out, are illegal. They are.
I tried to tell them that, because i will buy one, but if it as i said dont work partly or at all, or dont get deliver, i have signed that i have no right and can do nothing.
And as i wrote, that's not legal, and i just want them to be fair.
But forget all this.
I have tried, and they replied me that i am markes as spam.
So end of that. |
