Willow Party 2001 Party Report

(October 5th - October 7th, 2001 in Wellentrup/Germany)

Friday:

When I arrived at the station in Detmold after quite a hard train trip (these "this seat taken?" dudes can jump very hard on your nerves sometimes...), Doc Of Desire was already there to pick me up. We went to the supermarket to buy some food and drinks for the party. Arriving at the party place we met up with Floyd, there were also already four party visitors, namely Gunhed (whos is always the first), Stefan B. and Soraya and Honey from Welle:Erdball.

I began to set up my equipment and when I was finally finished, Doc told me to move again from my old place since there were not enough plugs for the beamer and the sound devices, so they needed mine there. OK, some time later everything finally was set up to work perfectly.

Well, the next guys I remember that arrived were Commander and FRaNKy/Role from Belgium. It was really cool to have these guys there at the party, because they really brought very much fun. Simply great guys! In the evening there were about 17 people at the party place, finally also the Mundt Brothers Thunderblade and MacGyver from D-Magic & Protovision showed up, while Svan/Level64 still was waiting at the train station. Back luck that he was calling right when Doc and I were on the way to get "some" food for dinner, so he had to wait a little bit more :-).

I tell you it's not so easy getting 17 hungry lions stuffed :). First we drove to the snack bar in Blomberg to order tons of burgers, chips, salats and so on. Our next stop then was the pizzeria to order the pizzas. Then we drove back to the snack bar to get our burgers, then back to the party place again where Doc let me out, so that me and Floyd could start feeding the lions, while he was getting the pizzas and finally Svan :). But we had the problems as lat year and the year before. Whose burger is whose, were is my steak, whose pack is this and whose that one over there? Finally everybody got some, but there were still some things missing the dudes had ordered. This surely was the last time we ordered something at that snack bar... I spent the rest of The evening finishing some more questions for the scene quiz the next day (belgium beer support by Commander, simply rulez!) and then I put myself behind the bar together with Floyd and we had some fine bottle of wine together with Commander and Franky. Well, time passed and early in the morning we finally got a little bit tired, so we took some hours of rest.

Saturday:

First thing to do in the morning was preparing breakfast for the party visitors, who turnd out to be quite hungry again ;-)). Then I continued completing some quiz rounds. There were plenty of entrys in the competitors lists for the game compos and the quiz, so we decited to start with the "Decathlon Extreme" Compo.

All the competitors had to do was to play the 400 metres dash with a palm top joystick, so you had to use your flat hand to move the joystick as this one of course did not have a stick... Franky/Role turned out to be the most tricky player as he placed the joystick on a table in order to get it stand still and won the compo! His group mate Commander had the most difficulties with moving the joystick and so there were 0 points for him.

Now it was time for "Real Scene - The Quiz", the scene quiz moderated by me (Scorpe). We kicked off with the first candiate, Commander/Role. Next in line were Thunderblade/DMA/Protovision, his brother MacGyer/DMA/Protovsion, who made it to complete the 1000.0000 points question and therefor won the quiz, as nobody else could make it to the top, Soraya from Welle:Erdball, who really showed that she as the only women in the field of competitors did not need to hide and Count Zero/Cyberpunx (0 points, because he lost all).

And then it was time to turn up the heat... with the first ever Willow Party Aerobics Lesson, lead by Soraya! She had promised us a surpirse and well, it really was one! Soraya made use of an old C64 Aerobis Simulation program for helping her performing the practises and nearly everybody at the party place took part. I have never seen such and enthusiasm and engagement the dudes (including me of course ;-)) showed by performing the practises Soraya showed to us. Simply fantastic I say! Well, some dudes however, who really could have needed some more training, had to "work" (they said) and did not take part. Well... "as you like it" (Shakespeare).

Next in line was the new and improved Pitstop II Cat Car Compo, which already took place last year. Here is how it works: Each team consists of two players. While one Player is driving a complete Pitstop II course of three rounds, sitting in a cat car with pedals for Accelleration and Brake and the steering wheel of course, the other player is taking control of the pit lane by using a normal joystick. Each team plays two rounds by changing the positions after the first one. The hardest part of this compo really is to finish the course without getting your tires broken before, which is not so easy when you're sitting in this cat car. But some teams really made it and it was a close race with the winning team of Stefan B. & Hoogo/Padua (who had arrived just two hours ago :-)).

Meanwhile there were about 25 people present at the party, and it was time for ordering dinner again. This time Doc and I went to the doener shop in Blomberg and shocked the workers there with our megalong lists of orders. Well, the shop owner told us that she would deliver everything within an hour. While Doc went home to get some more prices for the compos, we at the partyplace continued with another quiz round with special star Honey from Welle:Erdball. Well, he needed a joker to find out that Steeler really is moderating Mekka+Symposium each year :-)), but got a final score of 32000 points which was not bad, as most of the questions again were quite difficult to solve.

Show must go on, so there it was: The big C64 Hard- and Software Sales auction, Starring Thunderblade as the auctioneer. Articles were sponsored by Stressie, some local guys and me. Thunderblade could tell a little story to almost every item that got sold and the bids got higher and higher. There were printers, almost new C64s, Disk boxes, a legendary VC20 and other items to find a new owner. All in all the auction was a hudge success and everybody was happy with his new stuff.

Main event of the day were of course the scene compos, agan put together in one big mixed compo, inlucding demo, gfx- and music entrys.

Winner was Holy Moses/Role with his demo "Fourteenth", followed by Gunhed with his "Projections" and "Demonstration 1" by Welle:Erdball. Three demos on the first three places, a novum in the history of Willow Party.

Sunday:

Well, not everything got away in the auction last night, there was still plenty of beer left that the Belgiums, Kai and the organizers had brought. Well, Commander got Kai's beer for 10 German Marks, while Kai got Commanders and Frankys beer for 6 German Marks and everyone was happy :-)). Floyd and I went into the kitchen in order to do the dishes. The first people started packing their bags and in the afternoon most people were gone and most important they were all happy and satisfied with the party. That surely is the most important thing for us, the organizers. After a last game of "Bombmania" together with Stefan B. and Welle:Erdball we made a last foto session with the people who were still there and when also the last visitors were gone, we started cleaning up the party place together with Mash (Doc's brother) and his wife. Floyd and I had to hurry a bit in order to catch our trains but Doc made it to take us to the station in time. When I got home, there was only one thing to say: WHAT AN EVENT!!!
