Release id #129317 : VICE 2.4
What's wrong with sound playback? It has serious problems e.g. with filtered, silent sounds. AFAIK real machine doesn't behave like that ;] |

actually it was noticed after resid-fp was removed, new resid in vice 2.4.x always caused some farts/random noises especially on 8580 tunes |

yet noone bothered to report a bug, can't be that bad then.
and honest, when was the last time you actually compared it with a real C64? i know some ppl who made tests with emulation left and real thing right, and who confirmed they can not hear a difference at all. (and spare yourself the argument that can hear better than them, please) |

In what version was resid-fp removed?
Bug report reminds me too much of work. ;) |

it was removed after 2.4 (btw, after alankila himself confirmed that updated resid is superior in every aspect), so that cant be what jammer complains about. i guess =)
and yes, whining in random forums is way easier than making a proper bug report. it wont help however =) |

Quote: Quote:2.4 playback is borked, as noticed earlier by a lot of other people.
funny how you notice it 2 years after 2.4 was released =)
Not THAT funny after all since I staid on 2.3 until recently. |

you guys must be confused. 2.4 has all the resid-fp and model selection stuff and when you switch it to resid-fp it sounds exactly the same as 2.3 |

Just tried the 2.4.9 binary, the new resid does sound different. I can't say if that's a broken state or an accurate emulation state. I like the resid-fp better nevertheless. |

the big problem with all the complaints is that a lot of people confuse "accurate emulation" with "i like it better" indeed. |

Could it be partially related to soundcard settings perhaps? It can make a difference using the various resampling options |
