Metroid??
I am working on Metroid for the C64 ( http://www.codershangout.com/blogs/metroid ) and would LOVE if someone knows where I might find the music converted to SID. Or, if someone more talented than me (lots) would like to convert it?
The perfect solution would be to try and map the NES original to 2 channels so that I have the 3rd for sfx.
I have the Metroid MIDI's if that would help. I guess worse case I'll have to load the MIDI into some music software and manually try to convert each note with Goattracker or something. I'm not really a music guy. hehehe
Thanks!

@scout: HAHAHAHAHA! :D
@cbmeeks: Just do some progress in the game and then I'm sure people will be delighted to make some music for you. Currently as far as I can see you only have a semi complete scroller, which you even claim is a big step in a game like Metroid. May I remind you of collision detection, "physics", sprite multiplexing for multiple enemies etc. etc. etc.
I'm not saying this to disengourage you, I'm just stating what is fact and what most people probably feel. So, get some work done and you'll most probably get some heavy community feedback.
Good luck!

Hmm, wasn't Metroid included in the Nessidplay pack? Some of the tunes in that one actually sounded kind of decent. Not anything you should use in a game, but a pretty nice example of how Nes-tunes actually could sound on the SID, |

imho it would sound good, if nessidplay supports a 2nd sid. |

Yep, exactly, Nessidplay, made by Chris Covell made a few years ago.
While i'm at it - may I heavily encourage you to take a look at Lasse Öörnis tools, examples and solutions since he is using the 4x4 tile format you intend to use, and similar mechanics when it comes to the engine.
I suppose you allready know how all the technical bits work in the original game (level map structure and so on) since you allready made a version on the PC. The Datacrystal WIKI covers short of everything concerning the structure if you'll need some kind of reference -> http://datacrystal.org/wiki/Metroid |

I _adore_ Metroid on NES.
Make sure to sell some boxed originals when you're done (in the distant future), at least I would want that :-) |

@nata: Thanks. I will check that out tonight. Corporate firewall blocks anything NES/game related.
@Twoflower: Oh yeah. Reading EFNY and MW3 source all the time. It's been a long time since I did 6502 coding but I've done a lot of PIC/SX ASM programming so things are starting to come back to me.
@macx: I can't sell anything related to Metroid. Don't want Nintendo after me AGAIN. But, what I will do is change all the graphics and sound when things are done and box/sell that. I want to do a professional cart/manual like the guys at Atariage.
