photos of computer setups
I have started collecting photos of "8-bit" computer set ups. I think it is fascinating to see the places where all kinds of computer magic happens/happened. I am mostly interested in home settings - rooms from any time and any place. Demoscene relation is good but not necessary, hi-res photos are preferred (with credits), informative texts and and stories is excellent.
Possibly, this is something that would be published aswell.
With a collection like this it is possible to see what was behind all those screen, to contextualize digital works with a physical place. Postdigital, as the theorists say. We wanna see your data office!
Spread the word! If you are interested, or just have some links and input, please post here or e-mail info@goto80.com. Or bring them to LCP! :) Thanks! |

I still haven't gotten around to scanning photos of my setup back in the day, but I stumbled over pics of my gear from 2001:
C128D with SuperCPU, REU, and 1581:
Sun SparcStation 5, SX-64, Tower C64 (worked, but never finished the project)
Denon F100 sound system:

here is my currently used setup at my work place:
http://fotoalbum.virgilio.it/alice/danieleredivo/enginesimulato..
Features:
- 1 output card: from C64 to other cards. provides opto isolation of address and data bus
- 1 input card: from other cards to C64. provides opto isolation of address and data bus
- 3 x 4-20mA signal generator (8-bit resolution)
- 16 x digital outputs 0-24 V
- 2 x frequency generators, actually they are programmable timer dividers with 16-bit resolution (kind of timers in CIAs) with 0-15V square wave output
- 4 x 4-20mA signal acquisition (8-bit resolution)
It can be controlled even via basic by reading/writing from/to $DE00....$DE40, but I am working on assembler code that can drive it.
It can be expanded to have up to 64 read addresses and 64 write addresses.
I using MMC REPLAY to transfer the developed sw from PC to the C64. |
