Event id #2328 : Classic SID Composer Remix Challenge 2015

I feel its time to pay tribute to our masters, with modern versions of their preferred tunes!

I have created this event:
Classic SID Composer Remix Challenge 2015

Classic SID Composers Remix Challenge 2015

You must do an own version of one of the following composers:

Rob Hubbard
Ben Daglish
Martin Galway
Fred Gray
Mark Cooksey
Tim Follin
David Whittaker

It's your own choise.
Pump up them classics with modern house/step/grunge/orchestra!

Deadline 2 months... should be enough.

Rules: no requirement to use classic composer sounds.
do your own!

First of all, do you mean SID remakes or creating tracks outisde of Commodore?

Yeah, PC remixes do not belong here, hence I assume you mean SIDs ;) This orchestra/grunge hint is kinda misleading.

If I remix classic sid composer it doesn't imply that my remix is supposed to be sid as well. :P

So I take an existing tune by your fellow masters above and make a remix or own version of it? Kool :D:D

BTW, why isn't Charles Deenen in there, he's the reason I became interested in making music on c-64
If you already made up your mind about this event, it's okay
Maybe there will be a jesuis#Charles ;)

Looking at Jammer ;)

Ok, cool compo. I think I know what to remix, 1984.

And in a few weeks Mixer with probably another difficult one, it's going to be busy.

i have some old favorites, i hope to add a few..
never forget, heard computer music for the first time, and it was magical from the start, and all sound was great!
all games were great, just complete them!

i am quite fascinated with the remix cd "syntax 2000", every remix is done with instruments from 80s megahits, spandau ballet, grandmaster flash etc.

so you get a rambo/green beret, but its the message with gmf! fucking genius! i tried to do this, but i lack the instruments..

so to sid that... an example could be Daglish tune, with own sounds, sounding like the mirror real world megahit, that fits the formula.. finding out this is what is difficult.

\o/

Three questions:
1. Are non-musicians/noise making coders banging their head on keyboard in tracker allowed to provide some compo fodder?
2. May competitors use whatever tracker?
3. Does this
Quote:

mean competitors may also do .SID versions of POP songs from the period 1982-1988 that were never done for C64 before?

Cheers

That was clear, thx.

So how about doing
a) SID covers of SID covers from 1982-1988 :D
b) Covering pop songs from 1982-1988 as of yet ".SID-less"/not done as .SID?

Allowed?

If you want something like that, you should not be so strict about source material. It's quite hard to remix already perfect piece. Polishing sounds, doesn't usually make better results ;-). More crazy approaches, like mashups and rearranges might work, but then, I still preffer to make/listen to "new" C64 tunes covering some new "pop" songs.

Looks like you did everything fine, except forgetting to give yourself a credit :-) and adding a screenshot. Now maybe link your account to your profile (through the Userpage)?
Nice tune btw, albeit a bit short. :-)

Ahhh, thank you very much for your hints :-) And of course, thank you (or was it someone else?) for fixing the issues with my release.
(What I do not understand: why is it a good idea to add a screenshot to a music-only-release? Seems like a waste of bandwidth to me...)

Fixing it was a joint effort. :-) Re: screenshot, I guess it is mainly for completeness, and to see on the first glance which player was used. The pics are usually very small.

Hi,
I just uploaded a new tune to this remix challenge, enjoy and vote and feel free to comment. I used Future Composer 1.0 for composing this tune.
It's Biggles game title tune by Ben Daglish released at 1986.
Thanks to Lemming ( Finnish Gold, Nostalgia, Offence) for reminding me about this great game and music.
Cheers!

Rock made me aware to enter placement points, so this compo could be closed properly. Im sorry this took so long to "close", but i didnt realize i must enter placement numbers..

A triumphant return to SID by Rock/FIG.
See old guys come back, and play da thang.. WOW! :)

Congrats to all who was in this little compo.
You all made a mark.

I was also impressed with a guy choosing Falcon Patrol..
It was one of my first 10 games.

I have another compo in the brew, but im sure the new one will have more contributors!
