Transparant voting & editing
Inspired by somebody's post about being able to see who adds/edits content: why not make everything transparant? I don't care if somebody knows what I added & changed, and I also don't care if somebody knows how I voted. Transparant voting would also make fake voting a bit harder to do I guess .. any comments? |

I partly agree. I wouldn't have a problem if people could see what I added/edited. But do consider that this could easily lead to a kind of witch-hunting. Well, guess we need some more comments, guys. |

If we all could see who voted for who, many of us would be angry on eachother! There's no place on the net (that I know) where you can see who voted for who because it causes trouble. Every has his own taste of things, but also many persons don't respect other persons' taste/choice/vote.

TBG: just because it doesn't happen anywhere on the 'net, doesn't mean we can't do it too ..
Here at my work we review our co-workers after every finished project, and the reviews are open, meaning everybody can read them. And guess what? There has been no trouble whatsoever, even though there's much more at stake than just a demo or a picture.
So let's just pretend we are grown ups and can handle negative reactions to our works of art, shall we? :) |

Another advantage of an open voting system is this: let's say you know your tastes are very similair to mine, and I see some high-rated demo's in your list that I don't know. This may prompt me to check them out .. |

sure! great idea! as far as i am concerned, i really wouldn't care other sceners seeing my votes... nevertheless, i am, like many of us, also interested who downvoted dutch breeze with a 2 ;)...<br> wooha, make the voting transparent, now! 8) |

Good idea, but then again, there are people who honestly believe someone deserves a 1 or something, and when that is shown people might get angry, start nagging, etc... it is not healthy for this scene, as small as it is already. Well, that's miy thought anyway... |

Who knows what is healthy for the scene? I think nobody can claim that he knows. IMAO, scene should communicate, even when the communication is the argue. |

If you feel that somebody deserves a 1, you should not be ashamed to defend your opinion. If you are, you shouldn't have given the 1 in the first place. It's that simple. |

It is a good idea when everybody on this database agree with this! If some people don't agree with this, then you also have to respect that!! I can imagine that some people want some privacy... So if you want to do this, then first ask everybody who has registered in this database. If you want to force it, then give the registered people (who like to have some privacy in their way of thinking) the chance to delete their registration here (in this case I think the database will not be supported that much as before, many people will leave). Privacy is for many people a must, but if you like an open vote-system then just give everybody the chance to eliminate their registration together with their votes.

Sorry Commander, but how exactly is transparent voting related to quitting the registration...? *think*
If anybody wanted to quit (why would he/she?), then just don't come back here, it's as easy as that.
Back on topic:
I suggest that people who want to make their votes visible to others should be given the possibility, some checkbox you can switch on and off in the user preferences. Would that be hard to implement? |

You could also combine that with lack of power-voting. E.g.: if you don't want your votes to be known, you also only have the right to give rates from 3-8 or something. |

Someone also said that not all want transparent voting, then how about survey between CSDB users.

also an interesting thought.. there are a lot of people who voted for themselves or soemthing like that to test this database.. i request an option to remove that... so an ability to remove my own votes, since the first vote i ever gave was on my self... i would like to remove it.

Now there is a survey system in CSDb so all major decisions can go through such a survey. :)
