Release id #175656 : Space Beer
Can anyone else check this one a real 1541. Me and a friend tried multiple drives and c64’s, and we are only lucky using 1541-II. (1541, 1571, Oceanic fails). Strange. |

Quote: Deal with it, most people don't care anymore to use actual C64 HW or as in this case a real 1541 drive, it's too convenient and faster. It's funny to think that I was addressed as an emulamer for years because I haven't touched a real C64 setup since 1995 and doing all my stuff on PC only, now it has become the norm for almost everyone.
We can test dual/multi SID tunes, REU, EF, SFX FM tunes etcetc, without even owning the actual HW. The downside is that a release might work in emulators only, and the fact this has been noticed so long after the release, means that almost nobody ever cared to run on real HW so far.

Still real hw is the benchmark and standard. If not, we are not a C64 scene anymore. Deal with it.
At the compo they ran it on real hw, of course, but with the 1541U2. I actually run into the problem after the compo, because I still transfer releases to real disks and put in my diskboxes, but at the time I just thought it was a bad disk. |

Please discuss emu vs real hardware in another thread, this is not the problem here. |

Quoting hedningI never blamed you. I was asking in the loader somehow was optimized by the demo coder in a way that was too fast for real drives? :) I did not notice any tampering, build seemed clean without modifications. |

Quote: The demo uses Krill's Loader, Repository Version 166 - try and see if the test program that comes with the archive works with your drives.
As for 1571, yes, there was a bug that i found while working on Krill's Loader, Repository Version 184 - for which Space Beer was one of my test demos.
IIRC, the older version worked fine on any 1541 variant that i happen to own. Yes, actual real brick-and-mortar drives.
I'll make a build with the new version tonight and post a link here.
Will do! This is interesting. I always have two 1541-II, a 1571 and one Oceanic on my desk, so I'll give them a spin later today.
Please try this current version of the demo on your drives as well. |

Maybe the patches mentioned in the Goofs-section in the CSDB-Entry of the Loader have not be considered?

Might be that, because the test prg from Krill works fine on all my drives (2x 1541-II, 1571 and one Oceanic); at least they don't crash. Nice loader <3 |

https://csdb.dk/release/?id=169364&show=goof#goof Good point. Indeed, the patches were not applied in the 3 months after they were posted.
Will make two builds, then, one with patched v166, one with v184. |
