Several people crawling all the content doesn't help, especially if they are stupid enough to misconfigure their spiders. From now on every IP caught ignoring robots.txt will be banned for good. |

I must be pretty fucking stupid then, because I have no idea what "misconfiguring my spider" means in the first place. It's the first I've heard of using the word "spider" in anything other than biological context. So please do explain? |

Thanks Oswald. Now, is configuring the spider/spiders (??) the user's responsibility or does it have something to do with search engines and that sort? |

User responsibility. According to what TNT says, some people are misconfiguring these programs, so they overload the site. I guess robots.txt describes what is acceptable for such use and whats not. |

Okay, good to know. Since I didn't know such a thing existed, it probably wasn't me overloading it, but could it be possible that someone could be hacking into my spiders and making me indirectly overload Lemon64? Or in any other user's, for that matter? |

no, these "spiders" or "robots" takes some effort & knowledge to set up and use. if you dont know them you dont have one.
ofcourse it's possible that someone secretly takes over your machine and installs one, but its highly unlikely. |
