confused about Dolphin Dos
I have one machine that was converted and the 1541 to go with it.. and you get a parallel cable coming out of the drive as well as the usual connector.
Someone offered me a 1541-ii the other day with dolphin dos fitted , but no parallel cable.. so I wondered where the rest of it was, and obviously I said to him yep that's HALF of it, but no parallel cable also?
so the jiffy / dolphin dos's I see advertised on ebay are complete? as well they just show the chip, but no edge connector etc.
thanks for reading, hopefully someone gets what I mean.

Quoting Count Zero1581, FD2000/4000, CMD HD, RamLink and quite a few more devices support JD while it's a joke to install to a 1581 or 1541-II - the c64 part is just 1 minute more messing.
uhm.. in the interest of more exactness and less bullshittyness, would you mind to clarify what you mean with that statement, please? (I'm guessing you mean it's easy to install?) |

Easy to install in regards of no cable troubling, of course.

"Don't want to google now nor mix up things but one speeder reads the whole disk at once and accesses ram only then - was available for 1571/c128 as well (ProLogic?)..."
that was turbotrans (from rossmüller) |

Quoting Groepazdude, really. the above mentioned cable is the speeddos cable. it can NOT be used with dolphin dos
Heh.. just ran across this thread.. Actually that's not true. SpeedDOS parallel cable has exactly the same connections as DolphinDOS 1 & 2 cable. And - of course - can be used with them. DolphinDOS articles with schematics are linked from my csdb's releases page, BTW.
Quoting Groepazand you should do what countzero said. reset the drive (or power it off/on), then get the error channel (by typing '@') - and it will tell you whats in the drive. there is no point at all in speculating unless you did that.
While in general this is indeed the first thing to do, please note that there is still quite an amount of various weird, often buggy, pirate boards, which present themselves in some strange ways. One of the most ugly DolphinDOS rip-off I saw (possibly off a pre-production version of DD1) called itself "superprolog" with some lame stuff around :-(
