SID chip goes comercial (again)
Look at this :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_One_(Alicia_Keys_song)
quote :
The song has a sample of a synthesizer of the SID sound chip found on the 1980s computer, the Commodore 64.
hope she has a sid station.. |

i guess we need to hire a SID-professor to get an analysis done, so we can convince the wikipedia editors (as that phrase was just removed). calling SID detektif crew! |

from my studio knowledge.. it looks / sounds like she is using a jupiter 8.. I've only ever seen one REAL one about hhm 12 years ago.. before their recent emulation..

2:28 or just after, I'm about 60% certain that's a j8, due to the coloured buttons.

there is a tune I heard on the radio the other night while I was trying to find something that does sound like a SID sound. I'll have to try to remember what it is, does sound more "sid-ish"
thing is even things like the Juno 106 can sound similar to a SID, IF you program the patches right. It's tricky to say as I didn't hear any tell tell signs which make it very obvious.
although I know of 1 tune that does use c64 sounds BUT they are from RE-FX's quadrasid, I could tell a mile off. As the "sound" is the same but the notes aren't.
I'll have to try to figure out what that other song is in the meantime though.
After what happened with doughnut eating fool, they would be rather stupid to take tunes now.. As they think they may get outted as talentless losers. |

i got curious and took a closer look. now i'm 99.999% sure that it's a jupiter 8 in the video. :) which doesn't mean it was used on the recording of that tune. ;) |

Actually there IS a point to all this. The Commodore 64 has been around for approximately 30 years. During this time, a gigantic amount of SID music has been created by many talented composers. The Commodore has remained very popular and SID music has been very popular as well. Whether or not the Alicia Keys song in question contains fragments of SID music is a question that can be only be verified by the SID CSI team. With all the millions of people out there that have enjoyed a 64 throughout the years, it is totally possible that a number of songs within the structure of popular entertainment have integrated within them SID music or have been influenced by SID music. Never underestimate the power of the Commodore 64. |

Check the new 'Jeugd van tegenwoordig': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbhnJN8XPB4
Check more of his stuff: Bastian/Seymour Bits/Comtron/DJVT.
That producer uses the SID station for most of his work. |
