Handle id #1591 : Kjell Nordbo

I just begin to discover Kjells C64 tunes. His work is not easy to get into, but the more I play with the more I enjoy the creativity of this artist.

Strongly recommended!

To begin with him, try the Highscore tune of Dungeon Warriors, listed as Classical.sid in HVSC. If this is his own composition (no note in STIL) then thumbs up!

Sad he left this world and a pity I never got to know him.

Terribly underrated while he was alive, still one of my #1 sid composers ever. Most of his compositions are of the class that it would be viable to make real-life arrangements of them. Classical.sid is with almost 100% certainity his own composition.

kjell was way ahead of a lot of his contemporaries, production-wise. i wonder what his recipe was, in fact every single tune he got out was special, and especially good for that matter. i think that's what some of the highly praised producers out there may refer as to being "soul".
no really, check destiny, burnt bridges, died, snofnugg [..] to catch his drift.

Sadly missed. Underrated. Why do people get so much more noticed when they aren't around anymore? It shows we must appreciate everything we have while we can.

Fantastic composer. A great little compilation is Pioneers Are Lonely. Great atmosphere and variety of tunes.

Kjell had an enormous talent and was extremely creative. His releases show just a fraction of his work.
It's really sad that he couldn't stay with us longer.

I still remember hearing The Magic Flute for the first time and how fresh it felt and sounded (still does), I found it extremely interesting and the music touched me in a way I hadn't experienced before.
At Tribute 1994 I had the pleasure of meeting Kjell for the first time, and to make sure not to miss any of his future collections I suggested we should start swapping.

Pioneers Are Lonely mentioned above is a great collection & so is Iron of Steel which was released at the same time, those were all I listened to for several weeks when they were just released...
I remember I was working on Echoes of Rapture at the same time. Those were the days/nights, listening to SID and coding until early morning...

As a composer, its easy to recognize Kjells work.
Simply said, he was highly classically trained, or not, ofcourse i dont know if he had any training, but some people just dont need it!

Anyhow, classical composer, in my ears, and could easily have done music in 18th century, and movies etc.

A sensitive questions, but I am thinking if anything should be done to Kjells disks? I'm guessing there is lots of unreleased stuff. Should some of it be made public, or should it be left as is? Would someone who knew him (zyron? vanja?) be up for asking his relatives, and do some data archeology? Or, maybe this is just a bad idea?

As much as I would love to bring out things like his unreleased demo to the scene I feel I must respect his wish not to spread any of his unreleased creations since that was very important to him & a promise I made.

I have seen a few releases aswell which Kjell showed me at the LCP's, but which never got released. Stuff I can remember on the fly - save for all that music - was his brilliant demopart "Skycity" (interconnected with America, supposed to be released after his next demopart) and a complete level-editor for Jack the Nipper II. I recall he showed and gave me even some more stuff aswell.

I just added more of Kjell's tracks to our SID Stream (http://www.c64.com/sid.m3u) and changed his photo here on CSDb. The tracks I added were A New Life 11, A New Life 17, A New Life 20, Beyond, Bleeding to Die, Blue Again, Business, Catparty, Clowns, Cousy Café, Crunch, Died, Differ, and Drive. Killer tracks!

Thanks Z! There's so many tracks and I often find myself listening to the same tracks over and over and making no progress at choosing new tracks for the stream. :) But more songs will follow next year.

I just recently started listening to Kjell's tunes. The Blues Muz-folder has opened mainly for GRG until now..

Very productive and obviously talented composer with his own style. What a sad end for his life...

I couldn't help noticing the dark names of his tunes. If they reflected his life, seems like things began to go darker in 1998.

... and the intro-screen of "Larger Than Life"... creepy..

I should have posted here a month ago, since it was on that date 10 years ago that he decided to leave us.

I should also have made a memorial demo containing some of his unreleased works.

I did neither, unfortunately.

I forgot.

The reason I remembered it now is that my son, Melvin, turned 10 years old today & I remember that Kjell died a month before my son was born.

We miss you Kjell.
