the concert wasn't what i expected, too less c64 tracks (without c64 this concert never ever would happened) i missed culty tracks like "holiday morning" of the "starball" theme wich would be perfect for concerto, just look at the remix at RKO. |

Don't forget, that his Soundmonitor was the first step for many good musicians into creating music on the sixtyfour. |

I like this music but he is truly a bit overrated... There are a lot of good musicans on the C64 like Reyn, JT, Charles Deenen and more, more, more..
But anyway, i like his music. The concert was ok but i expected a bit more as you mentioned..
As this 3minutes percussions solo was really the badest of all... Boooringg..

Nono.. Game lovers call him the "Sound Magician" (from that website)... Muahhahaha... Can't say I heard too many people say that, apart (perhaps) from those who are selling crappy CD albums with stuff like this. :) |

Hülsbeck has some great tunes, and Turrican II on Amiga 500 is one of the beste Soundtracks I know. Yet I agree, I wouldn't ever list him among my Top 20 - despite his pioneer work. |

If someone were to wake me up at night demanding that I'd humm a tune of his, I'd me screwed. That said, i remember the intro of some soundmonitor tune impressed me. I think he's a I decent craftsman, but he takes far too few chances musically, which bores the crap out of me. :) |

I'm not denying that his Soundmonitor was a milestone in sid music history. But that sum's it about up.
He was a averagely good musician on the C64, compared to his fellow composers in his time.
As Laxity said, he's tunes were - except for a handful - rather dull and nothing out of the ordinary.
I Liked the Monkey Island tune on the Amiga. But that wasn't composed by himself so that one doesn't count.
And by golly, did I hate his drum and snare instruments. |
