Else, SIDPlayer (use Frodo emulation engine) will work in any system (use SDL library) |

Or you might try XMMS-SID if you use XMMS.

Sorries for waking up a zombie thread, but I am really interested which is/are the best/most convenient option(s) for playing .sid files on Linux (more specifically, Debian) in 2021.
I have tried VLC so far, but it works really weird, and I hate that player anyway. |

I simply use Audacious. edit: It doesn't always seem to do well with multiple tracks in the same SID :/ |

you may want to try Sidplayfp V2.1.1 |

If you don't mind compiling from source, VICE comes with VSID.
It has the latest ReSID and supports HVSC's SLDB and STIL. It also has some (unfinished) playlist support.
I wouldn't mind some testers, I've been putting off continuing work on VSID for far too long. |

JSIDPlay2 is done in Java, so it's platform "independent":

And it's very good SID emulation I must say (as good as newest sidplayfp and newest vice).
I use it together with ACID 64 Player on Windows as my primary SID player. |

The SID emulation is basically the same, Alankila rewrote reSID fp in Java, and since then all the are in sync with each other |

Can't comment on the quality of the emulation, but JCH's DeepSID is also a very nice player with a lot of bells and whistles: https://deepsid.chordian.net/
Definitely good enough for hacking sessions. |

Xsidplay2 (https://iceteam.itch.io/xsidplay2)
that uses libsidplayfp or old libsidplay1 libraries |

Players that run on Linux supporting SID that are not yet mentioned in this thread:
ZXTune: https://zxtune.bitbucket.io/
DeaDBeef: https://deadbeef.sourceforge.io/download.html
Most available Sidplayers that run on modern platforms can be found here:

I just happened to discuss this issue early this morning with dqh, I now know what the issue is, now I need to fix it.
Thanks for reporting =) |

Wow, quite an old thread. However, since I'm here...
Quite a lot of today's players on Linux include native SID support. My "weapon of choice" to play SID (and Mp3/Ogg) would be the slick Audacious player.
It is pretty much available on any distro: https://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Audacious/ |

beware of super outdated versions of libsidplay though (which unfortunately many of those players still use) |

Audacious is based on libsidplayfp v2 so I think it is quite up-to-date. |
