Adding games/crax

My two cents: I think it's senseless upload the pic of a group's intro instead of the game's pic.

this is a scene database, if you want screenshots from the actual game go to gamebase or lemon or whatever.

scene database or not... I PREFER BOTH!!

Is it so hard to make a little gif-animation with a few screenshots??

When I add a game I always make a gif with screenshots from intro, game intro and a ingame-screenshot... and it doesn't take me much longer to get that .gif... just a few clicks more... (c;

We already had this discussion... I second what Marauder said. Make a .gif animation, it's so easy to do!

And for uploaders it's much easier to judge if the version you want to upload is already in the database, when you can see at least two screens (cracker intro and game screen) in an existing entry.

how about allowing 2 screenshots? 1 for game and 1 for intro?

ok... i still prefer intro screenshots over ingame screenshots. mostly i'm not interested in the games but in the work of the cracker and/or intro coder. 'cause that gives us a relation to the scene IMHO. so don't expect me to upload an incame screenshot or animated gif. i prefer png anyway! ;)

Higgie, just add pictures the way you like it, I have no problem with screenshots from intro only, at least there's a screenshot... (c;

I just wanted to say how I do and when I add a demo for example which is multi-part, then I also do it the same way trying to add pictures from every part, as I think only screenshot from 1st/one part isn't enough sometimes...

so I would say screenshots of the "crack-intro" is a MUST(if there's one), of "game-intro" is a PLUS, and "ingame" NOT REALLY NEEDED, but nice anyway... hehe

@TWR: Yes! 'cause then there is no need for me to download this release as the intro is totally lame. And as I am not interested in a Boxing Manager Game this means no wasted time for me checking the intro after downloading. :)

@higgie: Ok, if the intro's the only thing you're looking for - fine. I like to see the whole concept - intro + fully working game.

Even though this is a "scene" database, I would sometimes see even the "game" credits for games here... (ye, ye, I can check Gamebase64, I know...)
But it wouldn't be that hard to have both intro-credits and game credits...

This actually leads me to my next wish... It would be nice to have credits for differents parts of mega demos as well.

You could add fields for GB64 and Lemon64 IDs to entries. That way there'd be a quick and easy link if you want to check out game screenshots.

...IMO separate creditz for the different parts is not a "good idea" as you then may have to add a person several times... and I'm lazy JO(nes) *g*

This all comes down to the simple fact that we (as a Commodore community) are doing things double, triple and once more over again with a little different flavour...

There's C64.com with rather specific and well sought out credits for both games and demos, but no tools.

There's the Gamesbase with info on games.

There's CBA's The Digital Dungeon with a lot of demos, tools, mags, but only 1 entry per game title.

There's Lemon 64, c64mags.c64.org, and probably a lot more with all sorts of selections of C64 software.

And there's CSDb with demos, tools, mags, etc, but only CRACKED games...

No wonder people get confused!

And for christ sake, we are already discussing what kind of screenshot you should add! This is pathetic...

Yeah let's talk about that again , and why not crunch all sites together into one big c64 portal :-)

Name of the game . software company . amount of trainers . ntsc/pal fixed . cracking group . importing group . zip

is the standard at TDD since 1994.

Oh yeah Mace, you forgot www.c64.ch for demos.

I agree with the naming standard of TDD.
And I didn't forget c64.ch, it's in the 'etc.' somewhere in there ;-)

Which makes one wonder why there isn't a tool database!

Files in a database like CSDb don't have to have any naming convention if they're stuck in the database. After all, the desired information is there as meta data.

On TDD however, the files form the database on their own, without any other meta data beside the name of the file itself. In this case, it is very important that all the files are named in an equal fashion.

To me it seems useless to discuss this matter of naming in a broad sense, as long as the objectives aren't the same.
Each database should have its own rules and ppl should stick to that. Don't try to exchange the lot, especially not in open and user-editable environments like the ones we're talking about.

Same here.

One should wonder what a screenshot's purpose is.
IMHO, the purpose is to show in an instant what version of what program (be it demo, game or anything else) it is and in such a way to it's quickly recognizable.

So if the intro is just a tiny white scroll on a black screen, then THAT is what makes it recognizable and thus it should be added in the screenshot.
However, as you'd be looking for a certain version of a game, it might come in handy to add a screenshot of the game too.

Most demos only have one entry in the database, so to make it recognizable, there should be an animated GIF. How else would you be able to find that certain demo of which you only now little, if you'd only recognize it by a certain effect in the 5th part?

Same goes for games. In some cases you can only know for sure if you have the right game if you see both the intro and the game itself, especially if you know as little about games as I do ;-)
