In any case... Almost all of these artists are Gameboy musicians, if that might affect your desire to get that album. The Gameboy soundchip tends to get very much non-varied after a while if you ask me...

I am a HUGE fan of Kraftwerk and in my opinion (everybody: MY OPINION! ;-) they should kept their little gameboy hands off those tracks.
Blasphemy i'd say!

Yup, too late indeed... *snif*

I am not such a fan of those remixed sid's either.
Although what The Dead Guys did a few years ago was quite nice. The rest is lame-ass trancy unz-unz-unz thrash.
But that is my opinion too (and off-topic).

Oswald: Well.. Of course there is some nice gameboy music too (just as well as fucking bad c64 music), but the sound hardware differences between C64 and Gameboy really puts the Gameboy in a worse position. More specifically, there is less parameters and possibilities (most notably no filter), resulting in less personal and unique pieces of music (most of the time).

It's all about challenge. Doing Game Boy music which rocks is much harder than doing SID music which sounds good. Seeing it from this point, one could consider that "SID is for pussies" ;)

There are many tunes on the GameBoy which may have no filter effects, but they simply sound great, because the composition is great. Many Nintendo and Konami tunes, for example, simply kick ass. Or for example the music of the 1990 game "BATMAN" from Sunsoft is VERY energetic and has some kick ass drums.

I think music should draw its "uniqueness" mainly from the composition, not the technical aspects. Or the other way around: bad compositions can be hidden better when adding lots of technical gimmicks.

Erm, any hints where I could download this music from the game Warlocked? The Maniacs of Noise website doesn't have it, and Google doesn't help much here, it seems.

Nice toonz on that Hoot page. Never tried this rudimentary GB system, but it must be a challange to get decent music out of it. At least there is music in those game tunes, compared to the random noise of newskool 8bitters.

[edit]Follin's music stands out in my opinion, the man just rocks every system he puts his hands on[/edit]

Indeed:

Click on Wine Cellar.

Especially check out:

http://www.bobspaddedcell.com/Tim/mp3s/48K%20ZX%20Spectrum%20Ch..

Amazing considering this being on the ZX Spectrum on this miserable, ugly, appaling 1 bit speaker. It even kicks ass compared to many AY-3-8910 tunes.

http://www.bobspaddedcell.com/Tim/mp3s/NES%20Silver%20Surfer%20..

Silver Surfer on the NES, I think it REALLY kicks ass!!! It's easily one of the best NES music tunes I heard, and can easily compete with most C64 tunes, despite having inferior sound hardware.

I think this site clearly proves that one can do kick ass music on almost every sound Hardware.

Wow, Aleksi that's a pretty good Gameboy medley you've done! Parts of it are a little bit too cheesy for my taste, other parts really rock the house! What did you compose it for, just for fun?
