VVVVVV c64 conversion...
Hello all,
I've been a long time c64 fan, and have since a few years been into assembler game coding on the c64. I've never released anything yet, mostly because all my projects are not finished and I don't want to raise too high expectations.
From the beginning of this year I've been working on a c64-version of the best 2010-indie game: VVVVVV (http://thelettervsixtim.es/). I already have a layout converter written and have most of the basic gravity flipping control mechanism implemented. The original author Terry Cavanagh is very enthousiastic about a real c64 version.
Before releasing anything though, I wondered if anybody here is interested in converting the awesome chiptunes that accompany this great game. Souleye (http://souleye.madtracker.net/) has given permission for c64 versions of his tunes, as long as they're non-profit. I think a skilled c64 musician should be able to make a version which sounds equally as good as the originals. I myself have a preference for a 6581 goattracker version...
To show you guys I'm for real, hereby 2 screenshots of my work-in-progress version:

Awesome! It's a very addictive game, and there really should be a C64 version. Looking forward to this! |

Just to give you all a quick update,
Last week has seen some serious bug hunting, but at least now the checkpoint, as well as the quicksand functionality is correctly implemented. Next stop will be the implementation of the moving platforms...

I hadn't seen this thread before, but as others have said, good luck with the conversion, it could make a really good C64 game! |

If nobody raises his hand for the music in this thread, I would suggest starting a specific thread in the Composers forum. I reckon all the SID gangsta rappers might not have noticed yet.
Good luck!

All,
Finally, after tonight the room names are now correctly displayed in the bottom border. All basic gameplay features are implemented. One can actually play through the whole 1st level already.
Next up will be fine-tuning the controls...

Hello all,
After almost 900 downloads of the demo version (VVVVVV Demo), I thought it would be time to give you guys an update of my progress in converting the full game.
Although all screens are RLE-packed, I was still forced to include a multiloader to load in additional levels. However, using Cadavers loader, the game will also support REUs!
The laboratory level is completely finished, including the inversion planes and background animations. The overworld is almost finished, and I'm just starting on the 2nd spacestation level.
The most important thing is that ne7 is working miracles in converting the tunes! Already his work in progress tunes are amazing!
I.e. slowly but surely the game is taking shape.

Awesome Screenshot. Though I did not even know the PC version before, I really enjoyed the preview, compared it to the ori and was simply amazed. This really can get one of the greatest games ever for the C64 - let alone in the post-1980s-era. Might even become a true milestone. |

Hi SoulEye,
Some progres has been made since my last post from the end of january. However, the game has been on hold for some months due to my entry for the RGCD c64 16KB cartridge competition (http://www.rgcd.co.uk/2011/05/c64-16kb-cartridge-game-developme..).
I will pick it up again at the end of the year...

Souleye, did you do the original soundtrack? The music was excellent! You should have a go at some SIDs yourself! |
