Poison/Oneway found dead
It is with big pain I am posting this. One of my closest friends both private and on the scene, Poison/Oneway (Radek Stypczynski) Poison was found dead friday may 6th. He died in his sleep in Hanoi Vietnam while taking a lunch nap visiting some artist friends over there. Hours before he said he was feeling a bit strange and ill, and then he didnt wake up from his nap. Nobody knows for sure what happened, but the doctor that first checked him said it might be a unlucky case of food poisoning or some virus or infection he caught that ran amok fast. He had no idea he was about to die. Last time i was in contact with him was just the day before he died. We, his old friends were informed saturday after the swedish embassy in vietnam had contacted his girlfriend and mother, and we were all totally shocked and devastated. Yesterday and today me and his old local friends met up and cried together. Poison was a dear friend and I personally had known him since 1989 when we first met on a copyparty, and since he had been a frequent party visitor for more than two decades he had alot of friends on the swedish c64 scene. He also was one of the most talented and unique pixel artists ive ever known, not to mention he was the king of petscii without anyone even being close to matching his style and skills. I myself feel like a big part of me has been ripped out from my heart, because during all my youth years, Poison was there. We were in several groups together, went to numerous dataparties, were close friends and lived in the same town for many years, painted petscii together, arranged music/dance parties for more than ten years where he did all the artwork and decorations, and the list goes on. Poison was one of the key friends in my life who made me become the adult i am today, so the loss is immense. If you were a friend to Poison and feel like expressing yourself, you can either post your condolences here or mail them to me joakim_cosmo@hotmail.com and i will make sure they reach his mother so she will see that her son was loved and will be missed. I felt it was my duty to take this upon myself being his closest scene friend. I have been crying since yesterday, and i almost never cry. It is very hard for me to write this now, but it must be done.

Thanks Jucke for investing the energy to write this down for us. I didn't know the guy (I thought of Poison/Singular first, whose work I greatly admire), but reading your description he sounds like a great guy, i will most certainly check out his works now, great PETSCII art must not be missed...
You have our condolences!... |

Horrible news! I was thinking of you the other day, hoping you would go to LCP this year. Now it's going to last even longer until we meet. Meanwhile, I hope you're doing some nice CG up there or maybe watching a Skåne soccer derby. Rest in peace! |

Poison was the typical true artist. He did his art in his own way, not competing with the vast majority of other artists. He didn't need using the best pixel techniques, strange graphics formats for maximum amount of colors or resolution etc. He expressed himself brilliantly with any prerequisites, also PETSCII as we have seen. Even though i didn't know him personally, i always admired him and his work. It's a deep sadness that overwhelms me when i hear these news. My deepest condolences. |

When Jucke called me on Saturday with the bad news of Radek's demise, I first couldn't believe what I was hearing. To me, Poison was the kind of guy who could cope with anything, a survivor and probably one of the last people I would ever suspect to pass away so prematurely.
Eventhough I'm feeling very sad about this, I will always remember Radek with joy. The good times we had at scene events and meetings in Helsingborg, how he turned every trip to c64 parties in other towns into adventures for us who tagged along, and his unique personality.
My thoughts go to his family and closest friends, who have suffered a terrible loss.
Rest in peace, Radek. I will miss you.

Shocking, yes. I side with Taper, thinking about Radek as a survivor kind of guy. The one who drinks a bottle of Polish vodka, or a couple, without blinking etc. It is also true what Jucke says: His petscii graphics are on another level somehow.
My hat off to Poison of Oneway. The coolest guy in the scene. I am happy that he ever existed at all. |

Due to Poison's untimely death, I decided to release the following, which has been on my disks for way too long now:
http://noname.c64.org/csdb//release/?id=100026
More info is available in a textfile in the .zip containing the release. Originally released (to me) on Floppy 2004, but not spread further than that until today. |

I am sad that another unique person in the scene has passed away prematurely... although I did not know him, I am sad to hear he is gone.
Jucke, my deepest condolences to you, you are a great guy yourself and I can understand your pain as my father died just 2 weeks ago. Remember your dear friend in life, and let his spirit live on forever. |

Oh no. Dan H. called me with the news, this is just too sad.
I knew Radek a bit, we met. He helped me out with a real good font when I was authoring a demo named "Red Storm" he helped me out with a real cool font. Now I see he's not even credited for that properly here at CSDb I will fix that up.
He was always what we say a warm person, calm, nice. He was also a very talented artist in all fields he tried, having followed his posts to the Internet and photos, you immediately recognize his qualities. And now he will never come to realize his full potential. We are all hurt by that fact. He will be missed. |

@King: Poison once told me that of all the releases he had been involved in, he was most proud of having made a font that was used in Red Storm. Not so much because of the font itself, but because he liked that demo a lot. |

When I lived up in Umeå during my first years in medical school we hung out a few times. He was often abroad, eastbound, but called me when he was back up north. As we both spoke with a Scanian accent it was nice to make some c64 catching up with a Scanian Pole, the rhythm was set.
He once had trouble with some hard drive of sorts and asked me to keep a back up of some stuff he carried around on a USB-stick. Mainly photos of his adhesive tape-art I believe, but I have not checked it out since. Perhaps I should dig up those old files if I can find the hard drive.

Very very boring news.
I have met Radek several times during the years at different Swedish partyies, and a very nice guy , and extremly talented Artist and Scener.
Thinking of booth the PETSCII and his Muliticolor style like he paint a pscyical paiting but in Multicolor bitmap instead.
Amazing.
My condolences |

Thank you all for your condolences and support. It makes it all easier to get trough. Many have been very kind to call or sms me to see how i feel, and have to thank you for caring, it warms my heart. Today Poisons girlfriend since 8 years arrived in Helsingborg to meet up with his mother and i guess in the coming days they will plan the funeral among other things. It's a strange experience to loose one of your closest friends and even if the shock is fading away now the thought that i will never meet him again in this life freaks me out a bit. But those are the conditions of life, so one of the things ive learned the past days is; never take any of your friends existence for granted, tomorrow they might be gone. |

King Fisher: I can confirm what Frantic said about Poison being extremly proud of that font in Red Storm. We went to Light+Phenomena'92 together and afterwards he told me he had made a font for you, but he didnt know what it was for. Later that year he was at my place and i showed him this new amazing demo from Triad called Red Storm for the first time, and he was totally blown away by the demo, saying it was the best he had ever seen. And then, towards the end of the demo, when that upscroller appeared he looked all surprised and excited and shouted -"WAAAAH?!! LOOK, IT'S MY FONT!!!! THEY USED MY FONT!!!". So yeah, he took alot of pride of having contributed to that demo even if it was just a font, and trough the years i have always pointed it out when watching it with scene friends. -"poison made that font". I think i will continue with that. (: |

I will get back with information about the funeral later on for those of you who knew him well and wants to come. My home will be open for you if you need to stay overnight. I have been informed that Poisons girlfriend has read your condolences on here, and was touched by what was written. I have been asked to take care of the music on the funeral, and i will make sure there will be sid-music played aswell as his other favourite music, and i will try to figure out a good way to show his petscii and pixel graphics also if possible. |
