Replacing 8580 with 6581

I've got a 8580 in my C64, how does soldering that out, putting in a socket and cramming in a 6581 sound?

Do i need to modify somthing to get this to work?

Also, are there any way to test the functionality of the 6581 before putting it in?

Quickly thinking, it might be easier to simply buy another C64 with a 6581... Then you'd have both. 8580 ain't so bad IMO ;)
