setting up help wanted
hi,
ive just got myself a 1541-II disk drive and an xe-1541 transfer cable and the star commander software.
can anyone help me set it up to my pc or does anyone know of a really easy guide to help me do this

star commander will most likely not work under xp and modern pc hardware. get yourself a 486 and try with that. |

OR install a DOS on free particion and boot to DOS ;-) |

ultimate boot cd might help to boot into dos, without having a dos partition, google for it, its free. dunno how much xe-1541 is compatible with new parallel ports, you should read the star commander faq. |

In any case you can convert your XE1541 to an XM1541 cable by swapping pins 5 and 6 in the DIN plug. With the XM cable you can use CBM4WIN from XP/W2K. ..or CBM4Linux on, well.. not windows obviously! :-P |

hmm this is strange my cable only has 5 wires??? it should have 6 shouldnt it?? bahhh i cant do this as this cable doesnt have a cable on pin 5???
looks like i have a dodgy cable

maestro, where did you get this cable and what pins are connected? din -- parallel
could it be pin1 is not connected? (it's mirrored to pin5)

i got the cable from a power seller on ebay who sells these cables all the time apparently
pins 1,2,3,6,4 are connected at the round (din) end
pin 5 has no cable what so ever |
