First Forndata ever - a quick report
Forndata 2o2o was meant to be the first demo party on the island of Gotland (situated in the Baltic sea, roughly 3 hours ferry from mainland Sweden) for at least 20 years. Probably more, if there ever was a real demo party here in the first place.
We had a great venue within a medieval building hosting the office of Gotlands big medieval festival, halls from the 13th century. Hence the name Forndata (roughly translated to "Ancient Computers").
Then came Covid-19 and the physical event had to be cancelled but we decided to go online instead!
This proved to be a great decision and we could by that reach a far bigger audience. With very limited experience on streaming we faced quite a few obstacles and had a lot of technical problems with getting the hardware to work. Our will to not use emulators for displaying the content was something we are very happy about but we certainly learned a thousand things along the way.
All in all we had about 100 viewers online for the compos and 26+1 entries in total distributed over following categories:
C64 GRAPHICS (10 entries)
AMIGA GRAPHICS (3 entries)
SID MUSIC (4 entries)
AMIGA MUSIC (3 entries)
ASCII/ANSI OPEN (3 entries)
DEMO OPEN (3 entries with 1 out of compo)
We were really amazed by the quality of the entries submitted and feel honoured by the welcoming of this new demo party!
The stream ran continously between 13:00-00:30 and featured gaming compos, general chit chat and some demo viewing. A lot of learning by doing and just general hangout. We ended the stream with our coming tradition - the Sex Games Midnight Compo. ;)
From an organizers perspective we are all really hyped for next year and with all gained experience we will improve on all levels for Forndata 2o21! Hopefully there will be no Covid-19 restrictions by then so we can hold a both physical and digital party. We will definately keep on streaming every Forndata event also in the future.
Thank you to all who submitted entries, who watched the event and to the others of Forndata Crew!
